Sapphire Owl

Positives:

People are generally friendly when it comes to helping someone studying. If you’re having difficulty in a certain subject, there’ll always be someone who’s a specialist that is willing to help you out.

They’re surprisingly superstitious and love their tradition. Not only do they have their “welcoming parties” but they have weird rules like “don’t mention Alexandria in the library or your fail exams” and “first to finish and clean up during meal times is exempt from fag time” - while it doesn’t seem so positive at first, it helps to build a lively atmosphere for the dorm.

Being in the Upper Years is a blessing. With the fags and all, they’ll do pretty much anything you say. Though, it’s slightly easier on the Lower Years as well since the sixth formers don’t ask for too much. Generally, the whole brotherly relationship is fine within Blue House.

Negatives:

There’s no sneaking out past curfew! Not only are Lawrence and Clayton looking around, but most likely one of these guys is going to rat you out if you disturb them from their sleeping/studying time.

The second you get a bad grade, everyone in your dorm will know. That means the prefects will know. Prepared to be absolutely grilled with questions as to why you did badly. While Clayton takes the bad cop role, Lawrence is slightly more lenient but harsh if this is your second meeting with him. The gossip goes away after a week but people’ll be watching you to see how you do on the next test.

None of them are ever down to hang out. They have next to no social life because they always insist that they need to be studying 24/7. None of them know how to take a break and when they do… it’s for about five minutes.

Emerald Lion

Positives:

They’re the most encouraging people you could ever meet. A little loud and embarrassing if you’re not used to them but they’ll always support their fellow teammates in a match. They’re definitely chivalrous towards their opponents as well, wanting a fair match from them - they’ll even cheer them on to make sure they face them with all they have.

They have an outstanding care for justice. As far as anyone’s aware, there’s hardly any incidents of bullying or fallouts within this house. Everyone cares too much about dignity and all to get into a scrum.

They genuinely care too much about others. Whenever someone’s in trouble, these boys will bend over backwards to help out, even if it’s not deserved at times. Skipping class to go help someone isn’t exactly the most virtuous thing but their morals and worry for other people says otherwise.

Negatives:

6.30am may be normal rising time but everyone here gets up at 5am to practice. It gets annoying when you just want to stay in and there’s a massive ruckus of someone in your room getting ready to go jogging or something… some people just don’t realise that SLEEP IS VALUABLE.

They’re pretty girl crazy. The second they hear that one of their mates did anything remotely romantic with a girl, the whole lot of them devolve into chaos. “What do you mean you held hands?” It gets absolutely crazy when they hear someone’s gotten their first kiss so you might want to keep that a secret.

Not in the mood for exercise? Yes you are. Pretty much everything is solved with a good sweat, according to the Green House kids - if you just want to lie in bed and sob, they’re not exactly helping that much if they’re pounding on your door to get out and face the world bravely.

Scarlet Fox

Positives:

Their care about appearance extends to others. You won’t get two feet outta your room like a hot mess without someone telling you what’s wrong with you and how to improve. CONSTRUCTIVELY. Some people even have small sewing kits on them for unfortunate wardrobe accidents - these are the gods among men.

This is a party dorm. There’s always something going on. There’s always someone’s house to crash at on the weekends. Sure, maybe the lot of them get caught past curfew, but everyone takes the brunt of the punishment together.

They’ll always talk you out of a bad mood. They’re great conversationalists so they can pick anyone out of the dumps with a little chat. For some reason, even if you don’t feel like it, their persistence is enough to get someone to give in and they’ll make things feel a little better after that.

Negatives:

Since everyone’s of noble birth, there tends to be some friction in terms of who’s daddy is more powerful, or who’s more handsome. Fights like this can last anywhere from two days to two school years.

Drama always happens. Beneath the bullshit black tea is some actual tea. There’s a lack of trust in the Red House dorm because everyone has the power to ruin absolutely everyone with just a few words of gossip.

They’re pretty stubborn. Spoiled rotten, they really do think that they can get whatever they want. When things don’t go their way, they end up all pouty and annoyed for quite a while and it takes a good stern talking to from someone else to get them to grow up.

Violet Wolf

Positives:

It’s quiet at night. As rambunctious as this lot can get, they know that everyone needs their sleep so they’re respectful of that. To be honest, it’s only because one time Violet gave everyone a right scolding with 4 Ys for waking him up once. Never again do they want to face his wrath.

A lot of the dorm works together when it comes to the efforts of the drama department; musicians, artists and pretty much anyone in the Violet Wolf dorm will be helping out with the school productions. It might as well be just their show.

Once you get to know them, they’re the type to ride or die. Their loyalty is unbreakable (unless you’re an absolute idiot that betrays them) and they’ll take the code of help your friends and harm your enemies to the max. Your enemies best be worried for what’s coming to them.

Negatives:

Trying to practice your musical skills during free time in the dorms is a bad idea. Everyone else is trying to do the same thing as well, even though there are tons of free music rooms on the main campus. If you’re trying to study during then however… good luck.

You’ll have pretty much no social life outside of the Violet Wolf dorm; you’re branded as an eccentric weirdo, even if you do happen to be a normal and charismatic person. Good luck with that social stigma.

Sen: Well, as you say. We have absolutely no clue! It would be fair to say that she doesn’t have any idea where either of the twins are but I think that she’s probably suffering a moral dilemma/confliction on forgiveness. (I’ll refer to O!Ciel as Astre, just for ease) If you’d let me ramble on a bit, let me share my thoughts upon Elizabeth’s situation as a whole.

This page in particular is quite curious. We know that this isn’t Astre from the direction of Ciel’s bangs. It’s been said that multiple people already that she must’ve been referring to Ciel’s life - that she knew that he’d probably die another death. But this doesn’t mean that she isn’t going back to Astre because she doesn’t care.

Even if these words were just for plot convenience, it’s clear that these words show how tormenting this situation is for her. If she had simply just loved Ciel and didn’t care at all for Astre she could’ve just said that she knew where she belonged. If she had loved Astre and forgotten about Ciel, she would’ve yeeted herself straight back to Astre’s side. 

It’s possible that she may even know that something’s wrong with Sebastian. Who knows what Bravat and the rest of the Blue Cult have led her to believe at this point. By this page, we know that Elizabeth clearly sees him as a threat - as to whether it’s just towards the Cult’s secrets or to Ciel’s safety is somewhat unclear.

So right now… IT’S BEEN OVER 600 DAYS SINCE WE SAW HER AND I AM LIVID. To be fair, we’ve barely seen anyone apart from the twins and Sebastian and I swear if Toboso doesn’t end this torment in the next two months I will be LIVID.

Dealing with your little sisters crying is one thing - it’s quite different when your lover is the one in tears. He doesn’t actually say much, mostly because he’s struggle to convey his words in a way that doesn’t sound infantilizing or invalidating to the pain he feels. He more or less either sounds like he’s talking to a kid or goes to being clinical and almost insensitive.Awkward pats on the back are… awkward to say the least, he’s never been good with anyone crying around him. But, when they do allow him to, he gives the tightest hugs he can to let them know that things are okay, even if he realistically knows that they aren’t. Lawrence is absolutely terrible with other people’s emotions but he’s trying his best.Redmond

His approach to anyone crying is pretty much just trying to put on a smiling face as he tries to calm them down. Whatever they’re feeling down on, he’ll encourage them to even cry, yell and scream about it if they need it. He’d rather they just vent about their problems to him for hours rather than seeing them in anguish and mulling over their pain.Though, his care for his lover obviously doesn’t end once they’re cheered up. He’ll be very cautious around them and tiptoeing his way around the matter that originally upset them for quite a while but he’s very eager to get everything back to normal.Greenhill

This guy gets overly tense to the point where his partner will end up even more worried once they see him feeling that way for them. Can he touch them or even speak them? Too many questions may overload them but he genuinely just wants to know what he can do to help.It does help that he knows all the things that his partner likes so he ends up spewing out promises for them to cheer them up later. Sure, maybe showering them in some superficial things may not always be the best approach when it comes to cheering up a partner but it’s obvious how much he’ll do for them.Violet

Sen: Not yet but now it has.

Herman is the only person Gregory will ever willingly get up early for. That doesn’t mean morning jogs - that would be pushing his willpower - but he’ll settle for a walk, seeing the sun get up in the morning is what makes it all worth it. Besides, Herman’s likely to treat him to breakfast as well.

Gregory doesn’t use Herman as a painting subject too often. It’s not a matter of not wanting him, but because Gregory doesn’t really feel like he can capture Herman’s visage as well. Of course, Herman tries to draw with him and it looks pretty close to chicken scratch. The effort is very much appreciated.

Herman’s not too fond of embarrassing Gregory, since he knows how uncomfortable being out in public is for him. In private however, Herman makes his affection known at every given opportunity. Sweeping your love off of their feet is cute and all for others, but Herman goes in with such a speed that he only gets Gregory’s screeching. 

Despite that, Gregory can be pretty clingy when they have moments alone together. Call him a bad influence, but he’ll never let Herman leave bed if Gregory still wants to hold onto him for another ten minutes or an hour more. Think of him like a cat, only clambering onto Herman when he wants but slinking away when only he’s had his fill of affection.

Herman knows that Gregory isn’t lazy - he’s just unmotivated for most things. With Herman’s boundless dog-like energy, he does his best to be bright and cheery around Gregory, hoping that his energy will rub off on him. Though, he’s very respectful of Gregory’s boundaries and never tries to push him to do anything he vehemently dislikes.

One of their favourite activities to do is baking. Of course it’s a lot of work, but Gregory can’t get enough of Herman’s cupcakes. Neither of them have a particularly sweet tooth for anything but each other’s creations. Though, Herman feels a bit bad eating something that’s so expertly decorated by Gregory…

Lawrence

Considering that his secret blog is dedicated to things like Star Wars, Star Trek and that really bad movie Star Runners that he defends with his life - Sci-Fi is “surprisingly” his favourite movie genre. Society changes quickly; all the things in Back to The Future didn’t exactly come true but the possibility of all of it suddenly coming to real life excited him so much a kid. Embarrassingly, his studies in science were fuelled by the idea of being someone who created something like what he’s seen in movies.

Edgar

He’s a sucker for fantasy films. They remind him of his childhood when he’d play with all the kids in the park as the valiant knight (or even the cute love interest back when Lawrence didn’t realise he was a guy). He follows series of films all the way from day one so it’s expected that when he goes to see the finale of it all, he’ll be bawling his eyes out. Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are all owned on DVD so he can relive his memories and eventually sob into the pillow he’s holding as he realises there’s no more left.

Herman

Superhero movies are always the coolest! Of course, most of these plots have been beaten half to death, but an underdog story will always get his blood pumping. He’s a sucker for cool visual effects and witty lines of return from heroes and villains; it’s easy to see how hyped he is when he leaves the cinema. He saw Wonder Woman, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy all on opening day. There’s never a time when he’s not in the first couple of people in the lineup to watch a good hero film.

Gregory

Post-apocalyptic movies are always so imaginative, even if the future does look bleak. Films like Mad Max, The Maze Runner and a ton of zombie movies really don’t seem like they’d be up his alley, but it’s only when you’re with him watching these do you see him genuinely excited for something. The whole set design is what initially drew him in but he mostly stayed for the emotions that such tragedies could evoke sometimes.

Clayton

What do you mean “favourite genre”? For him, he has no idea what he likes and just happens to watch whatever people say is a classic... whatever older people say is a classic. True, none of his choices, Gone with the Wind, Singin’ in the Rain or Rebel Without a Cause aren’t the kind of movies that you would automatically state as one of your favourites, but it’s mostly because Clayton isn’t a big movie watcher. He’s the kind of person that binge watches whole series instead.

Edward

Spy films have always been the coolest! He’s debated with Greenhill on this for ages. It’s literally possible to become a spy and do all these cool stunts. (Maybe this comes from that one phase where Edward wanted to be part of MI5/6). James Bond, Kingsman even older movies like Night Train to Paris; It’s practically British culture at this point, that’s what basically put Britain on the movie map. 

Joanne

His guilty pleasure is romance films. Though, it’s somehow pretty obvious to everyone else. It’s even better when they’re overly dramatic and make absolutely no sense. Joanne's into more of those classics with a comedic tone, so his watch list pretty much consists of a cycle of Love Actually, 10 Things I hate about you and You’ve Got Mail. Maybe he should get more to watch but these movies have a little place in his heart.

Cheslock

#Gonna compare a child whose suffered so much but later did a few awful things to a hellish spawn who did a gazillion crimes without sparing sympathy or mercy. It’s infuriating! So Lizzy can have one little selfish moment in the entirety of the manga and they can hate her for it and talk smack about her but we can’t if it’s Sebastian, even though we have a dozen good reasons why.

There are many contributing factors as to why there are mixed opinions upon Ch. 137. I believe a large part of this is actually the effect of the narrative and structuring of the series. The notion of human and demonic evil will be explored in this; here’s a hint - demons being evil doesn’t excuse the utter annoyance I feel from looking at the fandom’s division upon this topic.

Sebastian is the protagonist of this series which is why we see this story from his perspective, even if it is a mostly third person narrative. This is what we’ve known from the start of the manga; in the first part of ‘Downstairs with Kuroshitsuji’ in Yen Press’ translation, Toboso and Editor K discuss “that butler story” and how “having a butler as a hero is difficult”. In addition to this, there have been numerous tweets that discuss this (x) (x) as well. This leads us to empathise with Sebastian’s character - logically, when you learn and follow someone’s reasoning, you’re more likely to take their side. Following Sebastian throughout leaves people to want to support him.

Now, when a character that you support suddenly does something controversial, this can go either way: you can decide that you disapprove of the action or see that there isn’t anything wrong with it. In Sebastian’s case, people either detest his actions or excuse them with the fact that he’s a demon. In the recent chapter, Sebastian forces Ciel into a catch-22 quagmire. Ciel is lead to believe that he is the reason for his brother’s death and thus he can either take Sebastian’s contract, gain power and lose his soul, or he can refuse and still lose his soul - there’s no way that Ciel can win. What Sebastian has done is terrible. This… is by human standards. You wouldn’t want to play a game where you lose either way. As a demon, by demonic standards, what he’s doing is normal. Demons are evil spirits. Bad. Not good. This fandom seems to forget this. There’s a thin line between thinking that something that is bad is cool and thinking that something that is bad is acceptable. Sebastian is a cool character, but that doesn’t make ragdolling a child’s corpse at all acceptable.

Upon the point of Ciel being “just as bad”, I too would beg to disagree. Ciel is a child that has been manipulated into this way of thinking. If we apply Christian demonology to this, which this series seems to follow more than any other religious demonology, “a man begins to be influenced… to commit sin, there must also be some extrinsic cause of this. And this can be no other than the devil.” (Malleus Maleficarum, P.I, Question V) Plainly speaking, of course demons are assholes and they’re going to drag you down to be an asshole as well. Sebastian’s influence has done this to Ciel, as we’ve seen from Ch. 137, he has been raised to believe that this is the right way. Many times, it’s stressed that Sebastian has “cultivated” his soul. This key word shows us that he sees Ciel like produce, only for consumption. There aren’t any ulterior motives as to saving his damn happy meal. What Ciel does, his decisions and ethics, are all as a result of being raised by Sebastian. He destroyed the children in the Circus Arc as a result of a panic attack and Sebastian co-ercing him to take action. While one may argue that Sebastian tried to stop him from killing them and simply completing the Queen’s mission, it is still Sebastian’s “parenting” that had lead Ciel to believe that it was the right thing to do. We’ve seen him before as the small child that wanted to open a toy shop to provide for the children that were sickly like him - he used to be selfless and kind. Therefore, I don’t quite acknowledge the argument of Ciel being terrible all by himself.

Sebastian deserves to be called out for his actions. The excuse that “he’s a demon so he does terrible things” shouldn’t be used as an excuse, rather it should be an acknowledgement. He is a demon - he will do terrible things. We shouldn’t let this slide by. Though I do criticise Toboso’s writing heavily, she has made it heavily clear, many times, that Sebastian doesn’t feel empathy. He “loves seeing [Ciel] grovel and suffer”. This is a character that is evil and he’s been excused for his evil actions because he’s evil; what a shitty contradictory statement. That’s how I’ve seen the Sebastian defence reactions.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that I dislike Sebastian’s character of course. It’s interesting to see someone as evil as him. However, I too am disgusted by what he’s done. If you want my honest opinion, yes, there are a dozen reasons why we should be able to talk smack about Sebastian.
