​Ok but what if the self-insert was a chance for someone to be an adult and show Raine compassion and give her a break and tell her she's doing amazing and never should have had to grow up so fast.

What if an adult self-insert just functioned as the adult all these young heroes need for once? (Because in a lot of the games, the dedicated 'adult' is... not the best at that role lmao.)

I believe that it’s a reference to Jackie Chan.

I think that’s certainly a way you could interpret it, although that’s not what I think, personally. In terms of the Dave she shared experiences with, the timeline split happens mid-act 4, so by the time Cascade happens the only real separate memories Jade has of Dave is the froghunting stuff and maybe one or two pesterchum conversations? I don’t recall the exact number since it’s been a while. Additionally, Jadesprite has separate memories of Davesprite on the battlefield, so it kinda evens out. So I don’t think she would have approached him as a replacement - in fact she’s the first to insist on calling him Davesprite while John still uses Dave, which might be an attempt to assert their difference. (Also possibly something he insisted on since Jadesprite calls him Dave on the battlefield, and John (who didn’t interact with Ds as much during the 3 years) keeps calling him Dave for longer.)) <- Oh god, the nested parentheses, a sure sign I am not writing clearly and concisely this morning. I woke up at 4 am for no goddamn reason. 

When she’s grimbark she clearly has an ax to grind with Dave that I think is partly due to Ds-related baggage but also partly to do with him - Dave has also shortchanged her in the past, and she’s irritated with his behavior during their conversation (complaining that it’s too much like Ds’s.) So I think part of it is that Dave’s behavior is reminding her of being mad at Ds, rather than her simply pasting Ds’s behavior onto him. 

Why doesn’t she go maul Ds instead? A few possibilities, although I honestly don’t know the answer. Maybe she would’ve gotten around to it. Maybe she didn’t have permission. She takes her anger out on John, Karkat, and Dave, but she also has Empress-related business with them. Perhaps she could only stray so far from her orders, and she didn’t have an official reason to go bug him. Finally, maybe lingering affection, given that she defends him in her convo with Dave despite also bitching about him, although she’s also defensive of John later I think? And she still kicked him in the face. So that’s a big shrug emoji from me here. 

I mean… to be fair, he was the one who came to Shido with his powers, already perfectly happy to murder hundreds of people for the sake of his revenge. I like Akechi, I feel sorry for him, but I’m not gonna say that the ending he got was some great injustice on the writers’ part, even if I feel like he was a better antagonist than the next two enemies combined.

Not to mention, Shido is the adult here. Shido is an adult who took in a mentally unstable kid, twisted him even further and gave him the means to kill. Who’s to say if Akechi would have gone through with it if Shido hadn’t taken advantage of the situation to use to his means? 

Just, Akechi is a child. Shido is an adult. Regardless of what Akechi did, I don’t think he deserved to be shot and killed. Hell, Shido got to live, got to come clean and pay for his crimes. Did Shido deserve that more than Akechi? Hell, no! He was an adult who took advantage of a kid. Akechi did do a shit ton wrong and deserved to pay for his crimes, but he sure as hell didn’t deserve to die

The whole point of the game is the aspect of second chances, of getting the chance to atone. Why then was Akechi not allowed that chance? Especially when he showed signs that he wanted to repent? Why did Shido, who was arguably far worse than Akechi, given that chance? 

Do we know the actual year when he had th fever? Could it have been during the previous convergence zone that Suzuha mentioned?
