Agreeing with you so much. Expecting that the show's cast read / engage with fic feels weirdly intrusive to me.

i know it's people coming up this new culture where everything's gotta be a side hustle but like. i just wanna keep my head down, write my smut, and never be acknowledged by anyone other than other fans and apparently this is weird now and i'm so confused.
God ikr? Of course, we are from a generation of fandom where when creators noticed you, it was usually to send you a cease and desist for posting promo pictures or shitty midis of the show’s theme on your Geocities fansite. I’m not actually sure if those disclaimers on fics ever actually saved anybody from a C&D, but they were there for a reason.
I was watching an old Critmas vid and somebody sent Marisha a fanfic they wrote. I may have full-body shuddered because it just feels so wrong to me, in terms of expecting a creator to read your work and because it’s a thing you just don’t do.
Like, you don’t talk about your sex life with your parents (typically) or your boss. It’s not because it’s shameful or dirty, it’s just not an appropriate venue or person. I feel like it’s kind of the same thing with fic and creators. I don’t care if it’s the most G-rated fluff or the raunchiest explicit kink or even a gen character study. Fourth walls are good, even if we’re basically sitting on the same couch pretending there is one.
