This Abyssinian gladiolus has been blooming since July. Pity it is such a pain to keep alive from year to year... the corms cannot survive a frost, so they must all be dug up and taken in for the winter. 

Finally got around to buying some new Gladiolus murielae (I still call it Acidanthera murielae) (Abyssinian Gladiolus). Today’s #oneadayplant . Not as many flowers as you get with most Gladioli, but they are pretty big and strikingly impressive. Until in flower, you could be forgiven for thinking that they were Iris or Crocosmia, having slender, grasslike green foliage. . Pure white flowers with maroon hearts and a pleasing, soapy scent. . For me, they have proven to be hardy enough in pots and warm borders in the past, though I know a number of people overwinter them under cover. Up to you, but seems like a hassle. . Standing at around 1m (3’ 4”) tall, they make for a pretty unique and impressive plant when a good number of bulbs are planted. .
