Again, I’m going to put what I liked about it too, to avoid negativity. 

Hmmm, I have this general complaint with most movie musical adaptations, in that I would usually prefer if they used broadway actors and actresses instead of like… big name hollywood ones. and a lot of actors have done theater or musical theater before, or like, a lot of the secondary and tertiary characters (most of les amis, for example, and eponine) were minor actors (at the time) who had done a lot of theater, but like…. idk, a few of the main characters may not have been the voices i would have picked. 

ALSO ALSO THE FACT THAT THEY CUT SO MANY SCENES (READ: DRINK WITH MEEEEE) and never released them! or a director’s cut! what the fuck!

But I never got around to finishing the book and I’ve only seen two musical peformances (bootlegs), so I’m not really an authority, and I do like the movie. 

What I liked: Basically, the scale of the movie is amazing, from the opening scene with the flag and the prisoners to the ending with the epilogue and the barricades in heaven, it was done on a huge scale and it was so cool. Also, it was my first real contact with les mis other than the huge, ratty paperbacks that the seniors at my school would bitch about. But like, I don’t know… watching les mis for the first time was amazing. I remember seeing the preview a few months before it came out, and I wanted to see it SOOOO bad, so when it came out, I did go and see it. It was so emotional, especially the first time, especially Fantine’s part and then the very end. But like. The first time I heard the line “To love another person is to see the face of god,” and then when the epilogue really kicks in, I thought it was so beautiful and amazing, I just wanted that finale to never end.

In another name related story, I was talking to this guy who asked waht my name is, and when I told him, he was like, "Oh, like the Stevie Nick's song? I love Stevie Nicks." And then he had his daughters, who were like... tiny little girls, come to the phone and say what their favorite Stevie NIcks/Fleetwod Mac songs were and I was like, oh my god, adorable little children saying my name, what a great way to begin the morning
