Hmmm that really depends. I prefer writing one-shots because I enjoy the instant gratification of writing something in one to two weeks and spitting it out for people to read and give me feedback/validation on.
But if this is more *writing* focused, I guess I prefer multi-chapter fics, because I enjoy getting to delve into a world and getting to go deep into a story. Obviously, you can world-build in one-shots, I have created full universes in my one-shots (though my wordiness always pushes the bounds of what those should be), but multi-chapter fics let me sink into it and swim around more and while I often donāt have the time or patience for them, the few times I have done it I really enjoy it.
I. Do you have any particular inspirations when you write fanfic?Ā
Not at all. Every fic Iāve written has been inspired by something different. Sometimes itās music, sometimes itās prompts from others, sometimes itās headcanons that run wild in my head, sometimes itās other fics or stories. Iāve long since stopped looking for anything specific to spark inspiration in me. I know that if itās there, itāll find me.
J. What is your favorite fic that youāve written?
GOD! How do I choose that?? Impossible.Ā
I have 68 fics on Ao3 alone - Iāll narrow it down to three.
The MimicĀ (Band of Brothers) - Itās not my most popular fic, but it is the one thatās most important to me. Creating that universe was so much fun and was me at my most creative. Itās a little disappointing that I never got to write the sequels I had planned, because there was so much more of the world that is now stuck only in my head and will likely never make it to paper, unless I decide to turn it into Original Fic. Either way, despite the writing flaws in it (which, yes I have re-read it and yes I cringed plenty) it still remains a story that I really like.
Hello My Old HeartĀ (Band of Brothers) - This one, I think I love as much as I do mostly because of the people who read it and loved it, the joy people got from reading it was truly inspiring to keep me writing. It was such a balm to my soul every week that I wrote it, and now that itās officially finished there is no longer that twinge of guilt and regret hanging over it. Now, all I can do is look at it with fondness, probably more than anything else Iāve ever written.
Spring can really hang you up the most (Given) - I just had the thought the other day that I think this fic is the one Iām most proud of, in terms of execution. Not necessarily the writing, thatās never going to be my strong suit (I am fully of the opinion that Iām a storyteller first and a writer second, as long as my story and characters come across well then I am fine with my writing abilities not being as good as they probably should be for someone who writes as much as I do lol), but more to do with the fact that I think I told the exact story Iād set out to. In every fic I write, I go back and read it and inevitably have the moment where Iām likeĀ ādamn I really forgot to include that whole bit that Iād had in my mind for thisā orĀ āI didnāt convey what I wanted to hereā or worse yetĀ āwhy would he say that? He definitely wouldnāt have said that!ā (thankfully that one hasnāt happened too many times). But with this one, I feel comfortable with how I portrayed every character, and I feel like I did a good job conveying the dramatic points of knowing youāre making too big of a deal about something, but not being able to stop, while also making it realistic (thatās often my biggest worry, making things unrealistic). So, this one leaves me with a feeling ofĀ āI am fully capable of coming up with a concept and executing it exactly how I wanted toā, and I think thatās neat.
