really easy to forget these characters (i mainly want to talk about peggy, but honestly most of these characters) are all so young, especially when they're you know in historical garb that we associate with our grandparents' generation. like heck at this point i'm older than peggy would have been in the story (and this thought is its own can of worms). and when you remember it it just strikes you and ouch.
