Casual…?
Reddit continues to confuse me. In what way was Eren, (or Sasuke for that matter) ‘casual’ about any of it? Unless they're claiming that neither Eren nor Sasuke struggled internally, by default a character's internal struggle can't be 'casual'. Also, what a wild comparison to make…
I did see a comment under an AOT video where someone said "Eren is just another Sasuke in the end" and it had a lot of likes too… and it’s not just the haters that erase all of Sasuke's complexity, even some of his diehard stans are trying to proudly convince each other that all Sasuke wanted to do was kill and get revenge, like, c’mon I dunno what story they’ve been reading but it wasn’t Kishimoto’s ‘Naruto’, that’s for sure. Because Kishimoto's Sasuke has a lot of internal struggle, is complex and opened himself up to learn what he could do to give his life meaning in that world under such circumstances even if he had to sacrifice his 'one and only' and therefore all his emotions and himself entirely in order to achieve it making him such a great character. What Sasuke wanted is everything but ‘casual’- did they not see him scream, yell, get frustrated or cry? Or do they selectively ignore parts that don't suit the way they want to see him because they reduce him to "the emo avenger" and nothing else?
And well, the words he offered Kakashi and Sakura for their sake have nothing to do with what he wanted to achieve. So yeah, he can be casual in that moment because there’s a disconnect anyway.

Remember how Sasuke was so bright and expressive and open as a child? Before he knew to distrust everything...

In order to survive the aftermath of his family's genocide, and the heinous betrayal of his dearest caretaker, Sasuke is pushed into this goal of pursuing vengeance. He is the hero in this story, the only one capable of defeating the villain that Itachi has made himself out to be.
To restore his clan, means to restore the honor of their name. By all accounts, he is a true hero- giving his life to the cause in every possible way. His intention was always to die at the end, because what life can await him afterwards? He had no hope for a bright future. How could he?
To love is to suffer betrayal.

Yet, Sasuke is not capable of completely hardening his heart. Even though it meant sacrificing his family's honor and legacy- the only thing keeping him alive for years- Sasuke is powerless to stop himself from leaping to Naruto's rescue.
Sasuke is a hero. He can't simply leave injustice to go unpunished, especially when he is the only one who can stop the "villain"...
Come in here and say to my face how Sasuke is misguided in his quest for revenge against Itachi. It's not a lack of autonomy, or a lack of understanding, it's a blatant deception and that's another matter... If we were to assume what Sasuke knew as truth at the time, then I think it's stupid to say he was misguided in that sense. He was deceived. There's a big fuckin difference.

The way Sasuke's particular grief and trauma disallows him to let others get close to him, even when that's all he wants.
Sasuke is not someone who was born into hatred or vengeance. He doesn't typically hold a grudge, but he will remember slights. He doesn't view humanity as evil or inherently doomed, but that third thing; full of potential to go in either direction. He believes in justice as a practice which humanity must strive for, not as something inherent or cosmic. He doesn't believe in a higher power, but in the power of the individual and the collective. It is in humanity that he comes to find faith, both his own and others.
