About Gianluca:

S: Piero and Ignazio, let’s talk about Gianluca.

Gian roll his eyes and Igna give him a supportive pack on the arm

S: Which part of Gianluca’s personality make him be the best for you-

I: [perplex] The best?

S: Yes, the best for you. And what is he able to do to become the worst in some moment?

I: [shaking his head] rompicoglioni [literally means “breaking testicle” used to says something or someone is annoying in a nerve wreaking kind of way]

Some quite laugh

Piero bits his lips thinking

Silence

I: The best-

G: [Watching in menacing way the other two ] You have to be honest.

Ignazio watch him like “and what I’m I doing?”

Laugh

I: the best thing is that he is really sensitive.

Silence.

I: there are like… sometimes he feels the things… you know. He is sensitive.

P: I think the good thing is that he says everything [gesturing for saying “in your face”]… everything he thinks about you he says to you. [Ignazio start drumming with his hands on the couch]  Even if it’s a bad thing he just says to you. Sometimes we get in a little bit of fight but I appreciate that he says to me what he thinks about me… even if I don’t like it, but I know what he thinks so I fix my personality or we find a way to… [get along]

Gian try to put himself at ease in his chair

S: All good thing Gianluca…

G: [smiling] and the worst?

P: The worst we have many thing to say!

laugh

I: yeees. [gesturing with his hand to say “annoying”] rompicoglioni!

P: the worst think is that sometimes we read a book or… the worst thing you know what is it? Every times he comes to your ear [picking up the phone and getting it near Ignazio’s ear] “listen to this, listen to this!”-

laugh

P: –always with the phone in your ears. We’re like “can you stop please?” All the time!

Laugh

Gian looks slight embarrassed

P: …and another worst thing, another bad thing is-

Gian gesturing that Piero is exaggerating

P: –when we travel we are in four. The three of us and Barbara. Every time we do the check in he always [stressing the word “always”] asks to sit next to us.

G: [perplex] …and this is bad? This… this is not bad!

P: no! [getting agitated] because sometimes we don’t have like… I’m sitting on the window and he’s sitting in three B-

G: [stopping biting his nails] they don’t want me close to them. That’s the point.

P: one time you know what he did?

I: [whispering to Gian in Italian while Piero is talking] Know why? Rompicoglioni!

G: big laugh

I: smile

P: –we were like on a plane, intercontinental plane. So, he was sitting alone and I was sitting alone so, I was fine. And he asks to the guy next to me, to the lady nest to me, “can I change?”…and it was a beautiful girl by the way. So he was “can I change with you?” …so, I have to move next to him-

G: [in a sarcastic singsong tone] Oh, poor baby. He has to move… four steps ahead!

P: no! [agitated] the problem was that my TV wasn’t working, the seat didn’t go down like a bed and I had the worst flight of my life because of him.

G: [sounding like he’s having fun] but I was close to you! [blow a kiss to Piero]

Laugh

P: [actually smiling a little] No. I didn’t watch the TV, I have to watch what he wanted, so I have the worst flight. [sit, pout and put his feet on the table like a closure gesture]

And in all this Ignazio moved his head like watching a tennis match.

About Piero:

S: Ignazio and Gianluca, when you think of Piero what brings a smile to your face, and the opposite what make you want to throw him for the window?

I: everything of him!

Laugh

I:…No you know.. the good thing is that he is really responsible. He thinks…. He thinks things that we don’t think.

G: [laughing] he think thing that we don’t think!

I: [smiling] you understand it, right?

G: if you want to archive a goal you just do it. That’s the thing that I appreciate about Piero.

I: the worst-

G: sometimes I would like to have the same… passion, that he has when he do something. I mean… he’s really… [can’t find the word]

S: determinate

G: Yes! Determinate! Yes, that’s the word.

silence

I: [to Gian]: and the worst?

G: oh, we all have negative part of our personality

S: no negative-

G: no no, I’m talking about negative for… [gesture to say “for our relationship”]… Probably sometimes… How can I say?

Ignazio make gesture that says “extremely stubborn”

G: … Yes. He doesn’t change his idea.

I: If he says something, has to be that thing!

P: [really composed like if not about him] in Italian we would say “testardo” [means stubborn”]

I: [whisper in Italian] testa di minchia, pure. [“Even, testa di minchia” literally is “dick head”]

About Ignazio:

[this was a bit short because staff tell them times was up. The boys still wanted to finish the interview, but they had to keep it short]

S: What can Ignazio do to make you helpless and angry and what he can do that you love?

Ignazio smile and hug himself, than stretch.

P: Ignazio during the years changed. Before he was the one while we were having lunch he was talking all the time and makes us laugh all the time.  Now he’s getting more like serious but still fun. ..The way he make us laugh [affectionate smile]… because he does everything very naturally. And sometimes he doesn’t look around him, like the people who are next to us… Like before! We were doing an interview [Ignazio watch him perplex] and he was drinking tea and threw the tea on his hand and he just left the interview-

I: I got burn!!

P: -we just laugh

I: I got burn.

Ignazio watch his hand and then show it to Piero

I: look!

G: [smiling] that’s Ignazio.

P: that’s him.

S: people love this.

I: no no, wait wait!

Ignazio show his hand to Gianluca

I: spelao! [That his skin got off where he got burn]

Gian laugh for the tone

P: [in Italian] are you speaking Portuguese?

I: spelao!

They speak some more in incompressible way, than time to say goodbye

 PS: They didn’t say anything “negative” about Ignazio… but about Gian: I’ll sit next to you, cupcake, not a problem at all!

We have been working together for about 8 years but I think that everyone grew up and changed quite a bit. We were still 14 or 15 years old when we debuted [Gianluca was 14; Ignazio 15; Piero 16], but we were asked to grow at a fairly fast rate. In the past, Ignazio was the member who was always joking and was laughing when we were at lunch, but now he is more mature and serious. Of course, he is still a fun and bright person, making an atmosphere better. However, Ignazio is a very touchy person. I know him well, so I can understand how to handle him and how to talk to him, but if you don’t know him well, it might be a bit tough to get along. For example, it is definitely taboo to say to him stuff like “I am a better driver than you.”

At the beginning Gianluca seemed easy to get angry and I thought that it would be pretty frustrating when we grouped together, but at that time he was simply not confident in himself, he just wanted our approval. Of course now he is like a twin to me. I can not compare him with my older brother, but they are part of me and I feel that I am part of them. Either in good time or bad time. Fortunately, I think that we are having much more good times.

We always support each other. Of course, we also do a lot of quarrels. It may be an argument rather than a fight. But everyone is an adult, not an idiot, so we discuss it properly and draw solutions. Since we are together everyday and we are like living together, we have to know how to quell the fight properly.
