The Man in The High Castle 4x10
Now that is what I call a bittersweet ending. Truly bittersweet.
I never accepted it until the end but I guess they were all right that the key to everything changing was killing John. I didnât want to believe it because I loved him. Up until the end of the last episode I had never seen him as a villain but then when it was clear he wasnât going to stop and was just going to keep the camps I knew he had to go. Especially when he mentioned taking the other-world Thomas and having him as their son, he lost me there. John killing himself was so sad, so many people wanted to kill him this season but at the end it was himself. I so thought he could change by the end but I was wrong. RIP John Smith.
Helen. Fuck I am so so sad. I knew it, she knew it. Rest in peace Helen. Iâm so sad she died. Obviously we knew as soon as she stepped on the train that would be the end and she knew it as well. I wish there couldâve been some way for her to live. I canât imagine what their daughters are going through after this finale. I am proud of Helen though, she went out like a true badass. She knew what John was going to do was wrong and I am so glad that she disagreed with him the second he talked about taking the other Thomas.
That line stuck with me - âIf there is a better version of me out there somewhere, I want her to have my son.â That is powerful. From Jennifers speech earlier in the episode I think it really made Helen realise the horrible things her and John had done and the consequences of them. Her resolution was amazing. RIP Helen Smith you amazing woman you.
That moment between Juliana and John at the end was gold I canât believe it was like he was expecting her, hilarious. I am proud of her too. She was so focused she really said from the beginning of the season her mission was to kill John and i mean she didnât do it but she came the closest. Her reunion with Abendsen was beautiful and that Joe flashback in the mine excuse me whilst I hold my tears I miss you Joe made me cry.
Kido is now a part of the Yakuza forever I guess? Sad that that is his fate but Iâm not gonna lie Iâm just glad heâs alive and he reconciled with his son Iâm glad but he also should have gone home too.
The BCR officially have the west, Iâm still in disbelief that it is true that in order to get to where they needed to, John had to die. Because the next ranking officer who had been his friend for 20 years was clearly affected by Bellâs speech on television and he definitely did not want to kill them all he wanted something different. He diverted the planes and they lived Iâm so glad. I almost wish we had another season to see how they try to achieve peace but nevermind.
Childan managed to get a boat to Japan by giving away his shop, a fitting way to say goodbye to his old life. An anon reminded me about Ed from season 3 who we last saw with Childan and Jack, we didnât see him at all this season so I can guess that he either died in the year that passed or went away to live with Jack.
Getting to the end iâm not going to lie I was a little confused by the ending with all the people coming through the portal to their world. What does it signify? I saw Franks symbol on the wall behind them but did that signify that their world had completely changed? Are all these people travelling from other worlds to theirs supposed to fix this world? Or be a way so that they can replace the people who died? Iâm a little lost they didnât really set that up or if they did I missed it...
Abendsen walking away into the portal clearly showing that heâs probably going to try to find a world where him and his wife havenât met yet like they talked about.
Overall, the man in the high castle is now over. Iâm sad. Another one of my favourite shows, gone. The best things never last forever and this show is criminally underrated. This ending for me at least is very bittersweet because I am happy they are going to turn North America into something better but its also sad because John and Helen died and (especially for Helen) I wish there was a way she could have had that life in Montana with the girls.
