There's two wolves inside me
One that thinks TFA Megatron is a perfect example on how to make a good villain without needing to give him a sad backstory. He is powerful in an elegant way, arrogant but not needlessly flaunting, a silver tongue manipulator that even the audience can't tell if the "sad" story he tells during his trial is the truth or yet another scheme. He is a villain, nothing more nothing less.
The other thinks giving TFA Megatron an background as a victim of oppression (as a miner or simply making warframes a discriminated minority) who rose to power and lost himself in it makes him such a good foil for TFA Optimus. Who always strived for more, who had the potential for more, but was constantly told off and diminished by those above him, telling him "it wasn't in his coding". And despite life constantly handing him a bad hand he remains true to his convictions, always looking at the bigger picture, considering others instead of just looking out for himself. And even when presented with the power, his priority remains the well being of others, often above his own.
