i’ve already ranted about this in the tags of someone else’s post (sorry bro) but god. saparata makes me so emotional. this man wanted nothing more than to be alone. he built his home far away from everyone else, on his own little island at the southernmost bit of the archipelago. he didn’t want to get involved in drama or politics. he only allowed himself to get close to a singular person. he didn’t want anything to do with the world.
and then the world came to him.
he was forced to be a neutral party for political meetings. not only that, but they made him hold the most important of these meetings in his own home, a home which was meant to be a refuge from everything. and when that meeting happened, the one (1) person who was supposed to be his closest friend used it to betray him.
so he ran.
the man who barely allowed himself to be loved and seen became hated and hidden. his trust had been broken, his home used against him. he was probably the most unloved person in the whole world.
until he wasn’t.
until he had to run, and a horse built him a campfire and gave him food and sat and listened to his story, letting him rest, all without speaking a word.
until a hardened warlord gave him asylum and protection, believing his story and welcoming him into his home, his life. forgoing the ideals and beliefs he had built his nation on for this fugitive, enough to die for him.
until a manic emperor, whose reputation was built on lunacy and frivolity and an unbalanced perception of justice, had a moment of clarity and seriousness and looked a world leader in the eyes and, with words carefully chosen, told him to fuck off and stay away from saps.
until a whole fucking army — made up of two whole islands — followed saps into battle so that justice could be served.
saps closed the door on the world, thinking it didn’t want him, and the world knocked on his door and said YOU ARE LOVED. YOU ARE BELIEVED. WE WANT YOU IN OUR LIVES. YOU HAVE A PLACE HERE.
