*The camera starts up for the third time, Nicholas backing away and waving to the camera. He has a soft smile on his face. The lights are on, so it's easy to tell what the wall behind him looks like; a silver metal wall with minimal decoration.*
"Hello. I've been told to maybe, just maybe, try to find some more things out about my little home... so I did. I asked Leo what day it is, and he gave me this clock to tell me! I really like Leo, he's awesome..."
*He holds up a digital clock, with the time, date, and temperature on it. The clock reads: 00:45 01/25/2412. It is 15 degrees Celsius.*
"At least I know how old my hat is now... 17 years. It's been 17 years since Wolf of the Stars saw Earth... I wonder how the people here survive, and how they have such delicacies like my apple juice? And how are the humans walking around as if there's nothing... wrong? Maybe I'm over-thinking this, but I've never heard of anyone living on a ship forever and being happy...? Maybe it's that they have each other? I remember in the caves, I had 855... they kept me sane in the caves."
*Nicholas sits down and looks into the camera, a thoughtful expression on his face, holding onto his plushie.*
"855 made my life worth living down there. Maybe Leo, Maverick, and Persephone... maybe they'll make me feel comfortable for the rest of my life..."
*Nicholas looks pretty sad into the camera, holding his plushie a lot tighter, his eyes slightly glassing over as he finally processes a little of what happened.*
"I never got to learn what 855 wanted me to call them. I just knew we loved each other, and they took very good care of me when I couldn't take care of myself. I will forever be in their debt. I'm starting to recall some of the good times, but I can't recall much else other than the drugs they gave me to help me keep calm, and the comfort they gave me. They gave me my favorite drink, well... my new favorite drink, apple juice, to keep me calm when they didn't have any of that bluish liquid in those syringes. I cried into their fur a lot, and they cried into mine. I'm... I'm so happy I got to know them. I'm so sorry they died for me. I can't stop being sorry about it, and I never will. I hope they end up in heaven... I hope they're looking on at me from the stars, proud of me for finding the battery. Proud of me for making it out alive, and getting the attention of my new home. I wonder if they can hear me now..."
*Nicholas starts to quietly cry, forgetting to turn the camera off even as he reached for it. He put an arm over his head and pressed his face into his plushie. His cries can be heard through the camera, and sound sincere, not of pain, but of sorrow.*
"855... I'm... sorry..."
*He would repeat that sentence several times, slightly hyperventilating and pulling back from his plushie. He notices the camera light blinking, shaking his head quickly and stopping his tears, though his voice is still quivering.*
"I'm sorry about that. I know it's... a lot to watch. I'm keeping it in. I don't care. You deserve, watcher, to know how I feel. A-... anyway. M-mind if I ask my handlers for some juice- wait, you're just a camera..."
*Nicholas picks up the camera after wiping his face off, holding it beneath him. He slowly moves, walking out of his room and wagging his tail slowly. His 'ears' flick back in submission as he pads into the much more brightly-lit world of one of the starship's hallways. He shows off that the hallway mostly has white walls and no windows, some LED lights filling the room with a brilliant white light. The black floor and LED lit walls give quite a bit of color for the camera to look at, even if poorly focused. He walks into another room briefly, barking quietly. A tan, brown-haired woman, who was working on her computer, stands at that attention-seeking bark. She was about a foot taller than Nicholas, from what the camera could see.*
"Nicholas? What's going on? You alright?"
"P-Persephone..? C-can you get me s-some apple juice?... I-I'm just k-kinda... sad."
"Oh, sure. Give me like 5 minutes, I gotta finish the nightly report. Alright?"
*Nicholas slowly walks back to his room, shivering slightly as he closes the door.*
"P-Persephone is one of the n-night shift e-engineers. S-she's been on this ship since she was 9. 9 + 17... she's 26. She cares a lot about me, but she's not often up w-when I want to be out in the ship, usually. You should meet her sometime! A-anyway... Sorry for the short video, I need to go deal with some mental stuff. Hope you come back...! I love making these."
*Nicholas smiles a little before properly turning the camera off.*

Sub-Class: Experiment
Weight: 47.0 kg
Height: 144.5 cm
Status: Unknown, presumed alive.
Biography: Mostly not able to recall. Memory seems to be largely impacted. Adopted by an unknown space traveler, tracking chip removed by themselves, but destroyed much of their memory and did significant damage as a result. They know they shot themselves in the jaw during a mental breakdown surrounding the death of a friend, and nursed themselves to health to find the battery necessary. Unknown how the traveler got to Gray Planet, but 9590 was picked up there with heavy damage to their body. Given time to heal, 9590 was able to restore some of their memories, but not all of them- many of their memories were lost in a haze of drugs, seemingly. 9590's survival status is unknown, as there is no more access to their chip due to extensive damage.
Description: Badly damaged left ear, scars all over body. Missing a few teeth. Typically wears sky blue short shorts, a badly torn blue tank top covered in yellow blood stains, tactical boots, and blue and white arm warmers. May have gotten new clothing from the unknown traveler. Generally very naïve and averse to change. Unknown if aggressive, but would not be surprised if 9590 holds spite for humanity. Be wary.
SPECIAL CW: Medical, combat, some gore and lots of blood.
"... We need to leave."
*Nicholas turns the camera on after having gotten mostly ready to go, to let it finish charging its battery. He nods, and waves back to the Dune, who's still sleeping. He looks to Leo, Maverick, and Persephone for guidance as to when to leave.*
"We've got one more thing we need to put on before we go, Julius."
"What's that again?"
"The radiation-reducing mask for our helmets. We can't take any of this off when we're in the radiation zone, so don't even try. There's also an air purifier and oxygen tank addition I need to bolt onto our suits. It isn't enough for long, because we can't carry all of that."
*Persephone pulls a bunch of stuff out of her bag, including four M2 oxygen tanks, four gas masks with auto-sealing holes for extreme toxins. Persephone bolts Nicholas' on first, taking about three minutes to do so. Nicholas lets out a sigh as his body weighs significantly more than it did even minutes ago due to the suit additions. About 8 kilograms in total.*
"Sorry it's heavy, bud, but we don't want you or any of us dying out here."
*Maverick is next after he says that, the bolting process taking less time for him than for Nicholas due to his significantly larger frame; 178 cm and 60 kg. Nicholas being 144 cm and 47 kg makes this more difficult for him than for Maverick, Persephone, or especially the very large Leo. Persephone bolts it onto Leo third, 205 cm and 117 kg. He has it very, very easy. Persephone finally has Leo bolt the last onto her, which is easier than for Nicholas and Maverick due to her being 171 cm and 66 kg. All of the humans' long hair is tied back and into the helmet, unlike before.*
"Really heavy... mustn't be so hard for you, but ack..."
"Sorry, Nick. You need the oxygen as much as we do."
"I-I understand."
"We all ready to go?"
"Yep. I'm ready to get out of here. I've got a good feeling we're gonna find fuel today."
"Hell yeah! We're almost there."
"I said my goodbyes... let's go before they wake up... I don't really want to trade right now... I barely even want to talk."
*Nicholas presses the button to open the glass door, the humans run out, and he does too. The door closes right behind him, almost shutting on his tail, but he makes it well. The Geiger counter in his helmet starts going off just a little, but nothing too concerning. He breathes slowly, making sure his oxygen tank is off. No need to waste air when it's not too toxic. The group slowly makes their way down, where the corpses stop... at least for the moment. Nicholas leads them down an old, heavily beaten path, starting to recognize landmarks, including the skull of one of his own being used to mark a badly irradiated area, which he avoids. 922 meters.*
"We're at the fuel... what do you need to do...?"
"I'm going to put a marker down. We're going to go down until the fuel stops."
"... You know... I still wish there was a way to get fuel other than... this... hell scape..."
"There will be, but... far away, bud. We didn't have enough fuel to make it to those planets."
"That's... that's fair... hundreds... thousands... over ten thousand people are more important than my stupid brain... it's for the greater good..."
"Hey, now. You helping us get down here... it's invaluable, you know? I'm sure the other scouting parties would love to have someone like you, but you're ours."
"Am... I only good for what... I do?"
"No. I, and I'm sure Persephone and Leo do too, I value you as a person more than whatever things you can and can't do."
"Alright.... There's... a lot more fuel in this area... avoid the red rocks..."
"What're the red rocks?"
"Toxirock. It'll irradiate you... it's got a ton of fuel in it. Worth mining, I think?"
"We barely have to mine with all this fuel around! Dude, you found an amazing stash! I can't believe this was all thrown out."
"It's... mostly spent..."
"Our ship can use otherwise 'spent' fuel."
"Oh... well, at least you can use it... how much is down here? No clue, but... it's a lot."
"Let's keep going so we can go home. You get the marker down, Leo?"
*Leo is kneeled down, placing a tracking marker in the ground and burying it with a small emergency shovel.*
"Almost. The ground's not easy to pierce."
"You think it'll get up to the ship?"
"With how the connection is? Absolutely. Command is gonna see this stash and flip out that they didn't find it last trip to the surface."
"They did only get some to test if it worked. It's a miracle it did."
"It is, and this stuff is still much more enriched than the shit we got from the surface."
*Leo finally buries the tracker marker under the ground, to prevent it being taken by anyone or anything.*
"Got it. 922 meters beneath the surface is when the fuel starts. I can't believe this place's geology... it's insane! A desert above us, irradiated here... what is this place?!"
"A suicide mission for me."
"Well, this is no suicide mission. We're getting back when the drill team gets us."
"We have to make it all the way down... 1.3 kilometers... I think..."
"Alright, enough yapping from the three of you. Let's go."
*Leo and Maverick give Persephone a bit of side-eye, and Nicholas shrugs. Nicholas leads the humans down more and more... then, he sees his first bits of toxirock. 937 meters.*
"Avoid that. You can mine it with the drill..."
"We will. We're just going to have to avoid walking on it at all costs."
"Well... if we can that's best... but aren't our suits really... radiation resistant?"
"Up to 70 Gray."
"Holy shit, Seph. How'd you get these so resistant?"
"Lead."
"Got it."
"Can't wear these forever, then..."
"Better than irradiation."
"That's true. Hopefully the other parties are alright..."
"Reports say we're the first to find fuel."
*Nicholas, and therefore the camera, can hear some talking from Persephone's helmet; the Captain's voice. He only vaguely recognizes it, and thus ignores it as the group trudges along, avoiding more and more traps. Bear traps are the least of their problems, though...*
"We will have our drill team down there in about a day and a half. Can you last? How are your resources?"
"Our resources are fine, we have one day's worth of rations left."
"Good. Have you found any more life forms down there?"
"Very few. Fuel is abundant, but we must continue our descent. If we lose connection to the ship, prepare for the worst."
"Alright. See you in a day and a half."
"You hear that, guys? We're stuck down here for the next 36 hours or so."
"That's comforting, actually. Means we get to go home."
"If we survive."
"We will survive, Nick... this isn't like your first time."
"I still... have a bad feeling about this..."
*The four of them hear a loud whirring sound from beside them...*
"What's that s-"
"DUCK AND COVER!"
*The humans all make it under a small ledge above them just in the nick of time, and Nicholas digs down a bit and makes sure his head is away from what's about to shoot... five seconds is all they have. The sound cannon fires a loud, piercing noise as it barely misses the quartet, leaving all four of them dazed and confused for a moment.*
"What the hell was that?!"
"Sound cannon... get out of here... hurry..."
*Nicholas bolts ahead, jumping over a small gap. He then gives the cannon a swift kick, badly denting the part that makes the noise. It's unidentifiable. Several more kicks later, the top falls off as it starts to make the whirring noise again, rendering it effectively disabled.*
"Why did you do that?"
"Makes it safe."
"Alright, let's keep going... the faster we get down there, the faster we can get these radiation masks off."
"Heh, yeah... let's... go..."
*Nicholas seems hesitant to continue, but shudders and lets out a bark before starting to move ahead some more. Leo jumps the gap well, Maverick barely makes it, and as does Persephone. The quartet keeps slowly, oh, so slowly going down. More and more canisters of spent fuel irradiate the areas they try to walk on, but with all the armor and lead on them, they're pretty well protected from the radiation. Persephone puts small markers down to make sure they could get back up, or at least find their way if they get lost. Nicholas accidentally kicks one of the spent fuel canisters, barking again as it kind of hurt his foot. Maverick immediately rushes to his aid, but slows down as he sees that Nick's foot is fine, and that it's just a bit of pain that he walks off relatively quickly. Nicholas looks around, seeing a very small number of dead Experiments nearby, the radiation having mangled them completely beyond recognition. He still shudders at each one as the group pass by them, but he can't tell the cause of death like he had the previous bunch in the drier area above them. A ton of oil covers the path, and eventually Persephone slips, and slips BAD. She's barely clinging onto the edge of the path they're on, a massive, likely 30 meter drop below. Nearly certain death. 1047 meters.*
"SHIT! Help!"
"Seph! Oh, HELL no!"
*Leo, being the strongest, pulls Persephone up with relative ease, but slips himself moments later, landing hard without breaking his fall as he falls a couple of meters down on the other side. He's dazed for several seconds, and Nicholas immediately jumps down to his aid, even before Maverick can react. Nicholas looks up at Maverick for some guidance, but Leo raises his hand and gives the duo above them a thumbs-up.*
"Nick, I'm fine-"
"Good thing you landed... on your back... but let's get you sat up, I need to check you out."
"I said I'm-- fine..."
*Nicholas checks Leo over, taking off individual parts of armor. Leo was a bit banged up, on his back, some bruises starting to form, but other than that, he was fine.*
"Got any procoagulant?"
"I don't need it, it's just bruises."
"He should be alright, Nick. Thanks for checking on him. No need to use that for bruises, bud."
"Yeah... you're doing good."
"Thanks..."
"Alright, can you two get back up here, or not?"
"I... I'm not sure..."
"I can. Get on my back. I can reach the top. Let's see if that training at the gym paid off, huh?"
"Not the time to crack jokes, Julius."
"Hey, have a sense of humor."
"No humor in you falling almost-"
"In hindsight, as in about two minutes ago, that was pretty funny. Careful, guys. Easy to fall off."
"I almost died-"
"And I took a tumble. We're fine, let's just take it slow."
*Leo grabs the edge of the path he'd just fallen off of, and clearly the training did pay off for the very heavy man. He drags himself and Nicholas up, laughing when he finally gets up there. Nicholas hops off, using the claws on his customized suit to grip the ground better when he lands.*
"Wouldn't do that again! Unless, of course, it's to save one of you."
"Thanks for the save, big man."
"Don't sweat it."
*Nicholas barks as an alert as something starts to fall from the ceiling above them. All four of them start running, just barely careful enough to avoid slipping more on the oil all over the ground. Luckily, it hadn't accumulated on this particular spot, but it was going to in time. What finally finishes falling from the ceiling is a stalactite, and not a large one. However, if it had landed just moments before, it would have badly damaged Maverick's helmet.*
"Thanks for the heads-up, bud."
"No problem! Let's go!"
*The four continue their journey quickly, making sure to avoid several more sound cannons and a ton of other hazards. Nicholas notes at a coil, around 1190 meters down,*
"That will kill you if you touch it... I saw a few Experiments... die like that."
"Looks like it."
"Yeah, electricity will do that."
"Must've fried them..."
"Easily."
*The crew avoid several more coils, tons of 'spent' fuel, and a lot of Toxirock before they make it to the edge of the irradiated area... not a lot of dead Experiments in this area, at least visibly... could be because the radiation blasted their skin away long ago. Now, they are at 1230 meters. Nicholas looks down, then back up.*
"I think... this should be the edge... there might be more if we go down, but I wouldn't-"
"Let's press on, see how much more fuel there is. If there's none, we're going to put a tracker down in the next life pod we see and rest there. Deal?"
"Yeah... I'm... getting... nervous again..."
"What's wrong?"
"This place... I feel sick... fuck... I can't remember much... but my body is screaming at me..."
"We must press on."
"Give him a minute, Seph. It isn't like we're going to die if we don't keep moving every ten seconds."
*Nicholas looks more frightened than he had ever before during this trip. He doesn't want to lose his friends... or himself, at this point.*
"Is there a spot to... rest?"
"I don't see any life pods around. We really do need to press on, we have to find one. I'm getting beat... hold on, am I forgetting something?"
"Fine... take our time..."
"Leo, you need to put the fuel tracker down?"
"Oh, yeah. Guess I could do that real quick while Nicholas gets his bearings."
*Leo does so while Nicholas stops himself throwing up from nervousness. He holds his covered tail in his hand-paws as he begins walking very slowly forward, waiting for Leo to get done putting the tracker underground. It doesn't take long, and the four of them start making much faster progress towards a rest spot, welcoming the greenery... until Nicholas spots something... someone. He spots, as soon as he moves his visor out of his way, some gushing yellow blood.*
"Hey, there's a body... wait... did... did that... fuck no."
"Buddy, what are you-"
"I'm going down there, Maverick. Stay up here if you want, but I'm going down there. I refuse... to let... another... die- oh, fuck..."
*Nicholas starts to hear something familiar... crunching, slow movements... growling, cracking, the leaves of the trees starting to rustle nearby. This can only mean one thing to Nicholas; an Elder Thornback is approaching, and closer than he would like.*
"I'm... not letting that fucking thing get to whoever that is down there."
"What is th- Nick, I swear to God, if you jump from this-"
*Nicholas looks over the ledge, calculating exactly how fast he would have to get down there if he climbed, and determines it to be impossible to get down there in time.*
"There's stuff to break my fall... I'll be fine. Run. Please."
"I'm not-"
"RUN, DAMNIT! IT'S GOING TO FUCKING EAT YOU!"
"Alright, alright! Let's GO! We'll stay near to keep an eye on you, we'll climb down as fast as we can. Leo, Persephone, come on!"
*Nicholas makes a very risky jump, eighteen meters with only leaves and branches to break his fall for the most part until he hits a large, dead bush. He lands, though stumbles hard as he does. No longer in sight, he can't see what Maverick, Leo, and Persephone are doing, but he can hear them running as fast as possible towards the trees above him. He's only a few meters to the unlucky victim, and with absolutely no hesitation, he bolts towards the other Experiment, who's entirely unconscious and lying back against a tree. The first thing he notices, before anything, is a huge, gaping wound on their torso, likely from a massive creature or a sharp object in a nasty fall. He checks their breathing, and forces their mouth open to check for any blockages.*
"Breathing... slow... bleeding... mouth is a little bloodied... I'm fixing this torso wound first... pulse fairly strong... this can't have happened too long ago... airway good... everything looks fair..."
*He checks the victim's spine. Everything seems relatively okay there... He checks all over their body visually as he pulls out his basic medical kit, acutely aware of the danger lurking. The Elder Thornback is not his focus right now...*
"Spine feels good... no major issues... skin kind of cold... needs fluid... fuck... Maverick has the IV bag..."
*He notices a rancid smell and looks down at the victim's leg, where the smell is coming from- necrosis. He decides he can deal with that once they're to safety, but this huge, jagged wound, from their lower chest to the bottom of their stomach, is too much to ignore, and thus he packs it with as much dressing as he can. He hears the Elder Thornback approaching, but refuses to budge. He starts to panic internally as he starts to wrap bandages around their torso, using up nearly all of his own bandages to simply put enough pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding. He turns his head... he doesn't have much time, but he maintains his position. As he starts wrapping more life-saving bandaging around their chest and belly, he thinks about his life up to this point. He remembers what he was taught back in the labs, vividly... right before his descent. He doesn't know exactly how much blood was lost by this Experiment, but his armored suit is absolutely coated in it, from the ground to the tree behind them, and the wound itself. He looks behind him once more... the Elder Thornback is right there. Only seven meters away. He has no escape, no way out now. He had burned all of his time. Every moment he stays, he risks his life... but he doesn't care.*
"Not another one... I will... shield you... I refuse to let another... die... not on my fucking watch..."
*The Elder Thornback's movements speed up as it approaches him, and time for him slows down. The camera captures the spotted green beast as Nicholas turns around, pulling his gloves off. His claws, vicious as they look, are right there. He's ready to fight. His heartbeat pounds in his head, as gunshots fire from above, from the trio... the Elder Thornback, however, is entirely focused on Nicholas. A rush of adrenaline fills Nicholas, and once it's just one meter away, its mandibles closing in on him, he dodges. It misses both Experiments with the first bite, but turns its head quickly, now angered by Nicholas. He starts fighting back, attacking straight on. Not like he has another option, given the victim is leaned against a tree and still unconscious... it doesn't take long, however, for the Thornback to grab him, and grab him HARD with its teeth. He lets out a blood-curdling scream as it bites down on his torso, even tearing through his armor with relative ease. At least the armor slows the bite down enough for it not to be immediately fatal...*
"HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!! KILLLLL IIIIIIT!!!!!!!!"
*He feels the pop of multiple of his ribs cracking and breaking under the pressure, and his yellow blood start pouring out of puncture wounds on his chest and abdomen. He starts clawing as fast as he can, taking breaths where he can. He hears tons of gunshots from the crew above, and rustling as they try to approach. Nicholas is thrown about by the great beast, the spider trying to tear him apart. Nicholas screams again as more flesh starts to rip beneath the great spider's teeth, tearing up everything in their path. His torso armor is utterly destroyed, and the armor for his right arm, as it grazes a mandible and is slashed through with ease, is destroyed as well. His right arm starts to bleed some as well, but nowhere near what his chest and abdomen are doing right now. His eyes dilate to their fullest, and his fight-or-flight response grows stronger. He starts to do everything he can to get free, slashing at its eyes. His demeanor grows more and more reckless with each shake of the Elder Thornback, more desperate. He watches as a bullet whizzes right past him and onto the Thornback's face, causing it to finally let go of him. He drops about two meters to the ground, gasping for air. The Elder Thornback starts trying to go for the other Experiment, but more fire from above stops it in its tracks and forces it to focus above it. Nicholas realizes, the teeth were slowing his bleeding. He starts ripping pieces of his own armor off to access the wounds, not giving a damn anymore about the Thornback, only protecting himself and the unlucky victim, who he's soon right beside. He starts to pack his wounds with everything he can get, knowing he's on borrowed time, but then, he gets an idea.*
*Each word is separated by a desperate gasp for life-giving air. He looks to his side, watching as the unlucky victim starts to move their head, opening one of their eyes.*
"Who... what's... going on..."
"No... details... stay... back... still..."
*Nicholas pulls the dynamite out of his bag, his vision starting to blur from blood loss. He lights it with a pair of sticks, aiming right for the gigantic beast. He doesn't care one bit about his own safety now, but he cares about the newly conscious victim's, and his crew's... he has ten seconds before it blows... and he makes that time count. He says a promise to himself,*
"No one has to die today..."
"Wha... huh..."
*Nicholas yells out, as loud as he can,*
"STAY OFF THE LEDGE! IT'S GONNA BLOW!"
*The crew verbally obliges,*
"GOT IT!"
"ALRIGHT!"
"AFFIRMATIVE!"
*Nicholas throws the dynamite towards the Thornback, his last fighting action. He collapses beside the other Experiment, breathing ragged, rapid breaths in. The dynamite explodes underneath the Thornback, though only blows most of its legs off, and a lot of its abdomen. About four seconds later, another explosion occurs, and pieces of the rest of the Elder Thornback fly everywhere around them. From all the noise, the forest, the jungle, falls dead silent. He looks up, but can't seem to find where it came from. The other Experiment lets out a sigh, moving their right hand-paw onto Nicholas' left.*
"You..."
"We're... not... dying... today... maybe... oh... the warm embrace of blood... my heart... beat... my... lullaby... good night.... new...... friend......."
"Don't... die... please..."
"I'll... remember... you..."
*The other Experiment slowly drags themselves towards Nicholas as he slips in and out of consciousness. The other Experiment lies down on top of Nicholas, putting a bit more pressure on his wounds with their body, even unintentionally. They block the camera's lens entirely as they start to fall asleep again. All it can hear is the muffled, commanding yells from Maverick, Leo, and Persephone as they finally reach the duo.*
"SHIT! Check them! I'll check Nick, you check the other one!"
"Got it, Mav."
*Maverick moves the other Expie off of Nicholas, allowing the camera to see again. His hands move the fastest most anyone had ever seen as he checks Nicholas' pulse, breathing, and his spine. All of his vitals are checked without fail. He opens Nicholas' mouth and moves his tongue out of the way, making sure Nicholas is breathing. It vaguely sees Leo struggle, but succeed to do the same with the other Experiment. Maverick murmurs quietly, as if he's struggling to keep it together,*
"They're going to be okay..."
"Are you sure?"
*Leo's response is very shaky as well, his eyes entirely focused on the pair of Experiments. He swallows saliva as he hears a response back.*
"I'll make damn sure of it. Nick's pulse is weak, but good enough."
"This one's doing better. The pulse feels pretty strong."
"Good. They're going to be okay... It's all gonna be okay... Nick... you and this new Experiment... are gonna be okay... God, please... let them... be alright... I know you're listening..."
*Maverick tears up slightly as he prepares the two to move somewhere more secure, and his voice wavers as he's instructing Leo to do the same. Leo, of course, does the best he can to prepare the second Experiment for a move. Persephone's voice cuts through the clearing as if it were a sword,*
"I see a life pod not far from here!"
"Thank you..! Fantastic! Get it secured!"
*A rustling can be heard as Persephone runs away towards the life pod she had spotted, building a small bridge capable of holding the weight needed.*
"I'll help carry them, Mav."
"Thank you!"
"Want me to shut the camera off?"
"No. I'll do it when we get to the pod."
"Sounds good. Let's go."
*Leo and Maverick lift each of the Experiments they handled up slowly. Maverick clearly struggles with Nicholas, but Leo doesn't seem to be struggling at all with the second Experiment.*
"Maverick, give Nick to me. I can hold both-"
"No, it's fine. His armor's destroyed... I can handle him."
"Alright. Thought I'd offer..."
"Thanks, man."
"I-I feel like I'm gonna cry."
"Me too, man... we gotta save our tears for the pod..."
*It doesn't take all that long to get to the life pod, as Persephone had helpfully cleared up the path needed to get there very well. Her survival instincts being the best of the group really helps here. The glass door opens, and no other Experiments are inside, no living beings. Once Maverick and Leo get in with their two Experiments, Persephone closes the door.*
"Guess we did find someone in need after all."
"I... yeah."
*Persephone had prepared soft rubber mattresses out of some of the ground's rubber, to keep the Experiments raised off of the floor. Leo puts the Experiment in his arms onto the bed, and they seem to relax. Maverick puts Nicholas on after preparing his sleeping mat, sighing.*
"They're both going to need surgery for these wounds... I'm turning off the camera."
"I understand."
"Hhh... sur... gery...?"
*The Experiment's voice is light as they slowly awaken again, opening their right eye only.*
"You're awake... yes. You're going to need surgery. For now, rest. Don't get up."
"Human..."
"You're going to be alright."
"I can't... help... but... trust you..."
"You're both going to be fine... can I get, before you head back to sleep, a basic... anything?"
"My number... 09757."
"Alright, 9757."
*Nicholas starts to stir again, but he doesn't fully awaken from the pure exhaustion and blood loss.*
"Alright, now the camera turns off. I've got some work to do. You two, please, stay out of my way unless I ask, alright? Set up the tracker or something, we're 1277 meters down."
"Alright."
"Good call."
*The last thing the camera sees is Maverick pulling an IV bag out of his backpack, and him reaching over to shut it down.*

*The camera powers on to a nearly pitch-black cave, only lit up by the flashlights on the four in this particular hole. Nicholas is clearly trembling and breathing hard.*
"I'm gonna puke... I hate this place... I hate this place... I want to go home..."
*Nicholas keeps repeating that over and over and over again to himself, trying to stay focused. The blinking red light also illuminates the cave slightly, the cover of rotten garbage and loose rocks barely visible in this state. He turns on the radio built into his helmet and calls to Persephone, Leo, and Maverick.*
"There used to be a lot of Experiments down here..."
"What happened, Nick? You find something?"
"What's up?"
"Nicholas, you called?"
"I... can... see an old... life pod... it's kind of buried in garbage... the light's off..."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure... I recognize that shape..."
"Alright, we trust you."
*Nicholas pulls out a shovel he'd had on him and starts digging through the garbage. He flashes his flashlight at the trio of humans who were only slightly behind him. They soon come to his aid with their own shovels, digging 2/3 of a meter down into the garbage before eventually finding the life pod's tip. DISTANCE TO SURFACE- 291 METERS.*
"See... this is the tip of one..."
"The gravity here is so heavy... Nick, do you know how far we need to go down?"
"Approximately a kilometer."
"Oh God... I don't think we're going to make it all the way-"
"Damnit, I did it once, and I'm doing it AGAIN! With YOU guys! We can do it. You'll adapt. Like I did. Fuck."
"Where was this energy earlier-"
"He's right. The faster we get down there, the faster we can go back up, and the faster we'll be able to get back on the ship."
"That energy still isn't h-here, Persephone... I'm... sorry I yelled at you three."
"It's alright, bud."
"It's okay. Let's get down there."
"It's fine. We need to get through this together, or we all die down here."
"And now- AAAAAAAAGGGGHHH!"
*Nicholas cuts himself off as he accidentally slips off the side of the trash covering the life pod. One wrong step is all it took...*
"NO! NO! NICHOLAAAAAAS!"
"WHAT?!"
"Oh, SHIT..."
"WAHHHHHHHHHH! HELP MEEEEEEE!"
*Nicholas tries grabbing onto the ledge of the trash-covered life pod, but fails and starts a fairly rapid descent, about sixteen meters down. It only takes a bit under a second and a half, but it's a very fast fall. His visor blinks red, indicating something's wrong, and he's badly winded. He clearly doesn't want to get up. Garbage is piled beneath him, and beneath that, hard rocks. He radios,*
"Hhh... help... my nose is bleeding... where am I...."
"NICHOLAS ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!"
"Let me get some rope."
"I'll start digging down. He's not too far."
"I'm... okay... just... give me a second..."
"I'll get some bandaging and splints ready just in case you broke something. Your head feel okay?"
"My nose hurts... other than that... I'm okay..."
"Alright. We'll be down there in 5."
"Alright... can I take a nap here?"
"Not until I check you out. Then we can rest."
"Fine..."
*Maverick, Leo, and Persephone eventually, in about 5 minutes, are there, standing over the Expie. Nicholas waves up at them, closing his eyes as Maverick takes his visor off, and soon his helmet as well. Maverick does basic checks on him, cleans his nose up, and makes sure he has no other issues going on. Nicholas sneezed a bunch of blood up, and then relaxed as it got cleaned up.*
"Ew..."
"That doesn't look good."
"Looks like he just hurt his nose. Still sleepy, buddy?"
"Yeah... Oh, that feels better..."
"Nick, that wasn't a small amount of blood to sneeze out. Would you like to rest here? Better place than any..."
"We sleeping in shifts?"
"Yeah."
"Thought so."
"Sounds good to me, I'm beat. Who's staying up first?"
"I can."
"Alright."
"Sounds good. I'll take care of Nicholas a bit more before I rest."
"Got any... apple... juice?"
"Yeah, I do. We've only got a gallon or so of that, and a few gallons of water."
"Sorry..."
"It's okay, buddy. Remember, we're always here for you."
"I'm here for you guys... when we make it lower down... we're gonna have it worse... let's rest..."
*Maverick continues to work on Nicholas, plugging his nose so that it can heal up some. The crew sleep in shifts on the wood, but it seems entirely uneventful. Nicholas is the last one to wake, and lets the trio of humans sleep for a couple of hours, turning the camera off.*

This is a project for fun at the end of the day, not intended to cause harm. I may not always describe things perfectly, including in some very heavy situations.

And yes, this is an ask blog. The story may be ongoing and progressing at a rapid rate, but don't be afraid to ask the characters questions! It would mean a lot to them.
