On this night, 18 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights; 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning; 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift; 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. Eight paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am on Sept 11, 2001. We want to remember those who lost their life on that day. I vaguely remembered that day. I was in 3rd grade, 8 years old and was unaware of the outside world. As usual, I woke up around 7:30AM and got onto the school bus around 8AM. I did not even know that this event had occurred until I came home from school at around 3:20PM. I came home, greeted my mother and then she rushed me into her room, showing me the news. Now, as an eight year old, I didn't understand the news. I didn't know what was the huge deal. I don't exactly remember what happened that afternoon, nor I don't remember at all what happened in school. The only thing I remember, was the Twin Towers falling on TV.Â
How has this changed me?
Honestly, it didn't changed me until I went to high school. I was young and naive who didn't what happened and why did it happened. But, my family, who understood it more than me, were more over-protective. My parents told me to not go outside, not even to get the mail. They also told me to never ge the mail without them around.. afraid that the packages might contain something dangerous. The world became more cautious.Â
Now that I'm more mature and understand the significance of this event, I gained a better outlook of the world. I understand how dangerous and frightening the world really is.Â
Learn to cherish your loved ones. Never take life for granted, it will bite you back in the most unexpected situation.Â
Let's take a moment to pause, and remember what happen at 8:46am on September 11, 2001.
Good Bless America and every victim who was affected directly and indirectly. R.I.P. to the brave souls who fought for our country... we will never forget.
