How to make the most out of your Ramadhan – Tips on how to stay alive and fully functioning throughout the fasting days:
All praises to Him for giving us the opportunity to meet yet another day of Ramadhan and for allowing me to write at least something for this 29NOR and also for allowing you guys to read it. May we all benefit from this short piece, In shaa Allah.
So as we all know, Ramadhan is all about increasing your spiritual strength to another level and to focus on your spiritual upbringing. However, you can’t really make the most out of your Ramadhan if you’re practically dying out of hunger and thirst by 3pm and pretty much drained out of all your energy by the time it’s 5 in the evening. Therefore, it is paramount for us to maintain a tip top physical well being first in order to make the most out of our fasting days with various kinds of ‘ibadah there is to offer.
Some tips to maintain energy and to fully function throughout the fasting day:
Never EVER miss out on Sahur – not even when you had binge eat the night before. Sahur is the time when we fueled up our body, so if you missed it, not only will you not have enough energy stocked up to face the day, you’ll also miss out on the barakah that has been promised for it.
Eat consciously – meaning, eat healthily. Some recommended food that can last you till Break-Fast includes, DATES, honey, whole meals. And guys…. let us all cut down on those greasy fried bazaar food that we love so much.
Hydrate hydrate hydrate yourselves and most importantly with PLAIN WATER. It does not only fuel your body for the whole day, it cleans out toxins and prevents headache especially when you’re fasting. It’s already bad enough that your bodies are not receiving enough fluid during the day but it’s even worst if you start drinking sodas and sweet flavoured drinks to break your fast. As for those coffee addicts who run high on your daily caffeine intake, take this opportunity to cut down on them and eat dates instead- it works the same just…better.
Exercising in Ramadhan? THAT’S NOT GNA HAPPEN.
But believe it or not, regular exercise will aid your breathing and that will in turn regularly boost your energy and help you maintain it throughout the day. However, there’s no need to push yourselves for a heavy work out, a simple brisk walk to and from the mosque for terawih prayers, a short run around your neighbourhood or a climb up the Nusaibah stairs is sufficient for the day.
Too much sleep or too little sleep may result to excessive exhaustion and may affect your efficiency for the day. So, mastering your sleep cycle and power naps is one way to maintain energy throughout the day. Take note of the non-recommended timing slots that the Prophet had mentioned – after fajr prayers, between maghrib and isya’ and after asr prayers.
Tip #5: Straight up your own head
Even after all the tips that I have shared, it all boils down to your own head. Like what people said, it’s all in the mind. You’re the only one who is in charge of what you want to feel and which feelings you want to ignore. So it is best to just ignore and divert your attention away from the fatigue, hunger, and thirst that you’re feeling and instead focus on other productive things like house chores or some acts of ‘ibadah.
So that’s basically all that I can share for tonight’s 29NOR based on a first hand experience of daily excessive fatigue during Ramadhan and from the different tips that I myself have adopted through the various articles that I’ve read. Remember that, in order to achieve the most out of your Ramadhan, you’ll need to maintain a good physical well being first! In shaa Allah, all those effort will be rewarded. Wallahu A’lam.
