Basil was sitting on the floor of Yamamoto’s living room sipping on hot chocolate. He tried to pay attention to the television, but the rain outside was pouring down. He was feeling sleepy. He hummed to himself to keep himself awake. He was waiting for Yamamoto to come back from baseball practice (which was indoors, thankfully).

He was just as surprised as everyone else when Yamamoto confessed feeling something for him two months ago. He smiled and sipped his hot chocolate. It was still hard for him to call him his name without the honorific, and he still fumbled around public affection, but he was the happiest he had ever been. Yamamoto was always patient with him and kind, he really was a saint. Basil couldn’t be more thankful.

He heard a knock on the door and was startled. He put down his hot chocolate and ran towards the noise excitedly. When he got to the door, his shoulders drooped.

Yamamoto was finally back from practice, but his appearance was very surprising. He was absolutely soaked! Basil remembered telling him to bring an umbrella to school this morning. Hadn’t he grabbed his on the way out?

“Hey Basil! Can I come in?” Basil yelped and opened the door for him. Yamamoto smiled at him and excused himself to go change. Basil went back to his hot chocolate and was soon joined by his boyfriend. They sat together for a good while, which Basil savored. Yamamoto frowned and looked outside. “Can I ask you something?”

Basil’s heart skipped a beat. “What is it?”

“Can we go outside in the rain?”

Basil blinked. His boyfriend may be patient, but he didn’t always make intelligent decisions. “Why do you want to do that?”

“I want to feel the rain on my skin again.”

“We’re in the middle of a thunderstorm and you want to stop and feel the rain?”

Yamamoto nodded. Basil sighed and looked down at his hot chocolate. “I suppose we could go outside for a few minutes…”

Yamamoto hugged him and leaped up. “Let’s go!” Basil turned off the television and let his boyfriend lead him outside. Yamamoto laughed and spun in a circle. Basil stood and watched him. He couldn’t help the smile that came on his face.

Yamamoto held his arms out and Basil decided to be mischievous. He ran and leaped into his arms. Yamamoto was startled momentarily, but caught him and pecked his cheek. Basil giggled. Yamamoto looked down and said, “You’re really beautiful, you know that?”

Basil looked up at Yamamoto, his face beet red. He really wasn’t used to people complimenting him, especially his appearance. “I- uh- I mean-” Basil fumbled, trying to say something to tell his boyfriend that he felt the same way.
