The Sixth Chakra*

Ajna, the Sanskrit name for this chakra, means to perceive, to know. This chakra is called the Brow Chakra (or Third Eye Chakra) and is located an inch above our brow line, above and between the eyebrows. The Brow Chakra influences several aspects of our lives like our intuition, dreams, imagination, perception, thinking, wisdom, psychic vision, inner guidance, clairvoyance, mind, ideas, thoughts, and clarity.

The color of indigo is associated with this chakra. The symbol is a lotus with 2 large petals on either side, resembling eyes or wings, around a circle containing a downward-pointing triangle. A developmental age is not applicable. The main issues are intuition and wisdom. The goal is the ability to see other than with the eyes. The life lesson is emotional intelligence. There is no societal association. The sacramental association is ordination.

The element is light/telepathic energy. The ruling planets are Neptune and Jupiter. The astrological associations are Sagittarius and Pisces. The sense associated with this chakra is ESP or the 6th sense. Fragrances and incense/oils associated with this chakra are Hyacinth, Violet and Rose Geranium. No animals are associated, but the archetypes are functional-psychic and dysfunctional-rationalist. No foods are associated with this chakra.

The associated body parts are the eyes and base of skull. The parts of the body affected by our Brow Chakra are pituitary glands, pineal glands, carotid nerve and our plexus. Physical dysfunctions are headaches, poor vision, neurological disturbances, and glaucoma. Emotional dysfunctions include nightmares, learning difficulties and hallucinations. You know you’re out of balance when you have eye conditions, mental illness, lack of ambition and headaches.

Crystals, gemstones and minerals to use for balancing our Brow Chakra are Amethyst, Purple Apatite, Calcite, Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite, Blue Sapphire, Moldavite, Iolite, Charoite, Angelite, Prehnite, Cavansite, Celestite, Dumortierite, Pietersite, Azurite, Purple Fluorite, Star Sapphire, Tanzanite, Fire Agate, Apophyllite, and Rutile. Place the crystal on your forehead.
