WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS for âPerson Of Interestâ.
6741 may just be the most well-written episode of not just âPerson Of Interestâ but of any science fiction TV show episode ever. Thereâs not a single indication the entire episode is a virtual simulation other than the title - which refers to them having run that same virtual simulation in Shawâs brain 6741 times and counting.
Itâs just the fact,⌠if thatâs how real it was for the audience, how real was it for Shaw undergoing it?
Nothing in the episode was real except the ending which revealed that Shaw was still strapped to a bed being psychologically tortured to work for Samaritan.
Not even the sex scene between Root and Shaw was.
And you could say âOh? Well, thatâs a cop out then.â
But no, not really because itâs still Shawâs fantasy. Itâs still the place her mind goes whilst sheâs being tortured.
So even though it didnât actually happen, - thatâs still validating WLW. Thatâs still amazing representation because itâs effectively conveying Shawâs desires.
So I donât think itâs a cop out at all. In fact I think itâs better than if they really did have a sexual encounter.
I think itâs brilliant. Itâs truly one of the greatest episodes of TV art/entertainment Iâve ever seen.
I love it when TV show creators can catch me out like that. It proves to me that they really care about it.
I know itâs a pretty old show now but seriouslyâŚ
I need to see more TV art/entertainment like that!
Because that was bloody fantastic writing and acting!
