#6582 Bellwoods Bring Out Your Dead (2017) (Canada) This is the face of a man who just submitted his sophomore solo album, so tonight, we’re diving into the cellar for some big dogs. Bring Out Your Dead is Bellwoods’ big, boozy, barrel-aged imperial stout series and this was the first one I tried back in 2017, but for some reason never reviewed it. Coming in at 11%, it was aged in cognac barrels for 16 months, it pours jet black with a small, dark espresso head and straight cognac and barrels on the nose, the body almost burns like liquor up front, there’s tons of bitter dark chocolate alongside oaky vanilla and rich cognac, it’s intense yet smooth and almost creamy, the bitterness overwhelms initially but it makes way for what could be described as one of those chocolate shot glasses full of cognac, it’s complex and decadent, wrapping in a dry, vanilla, boozy finish.
