A/N: Decided I love Ctrl so much that a series of independent one-shots should come from it!Â
Warning: Slight sexual mention, maybe some mature themes(?) tw: cheating
Calum hasn’t been the most faithful, and in return, you start sleeping with his band mate.
You felt like you should be seeing red with the things you’d discovered on your boyfriend’s laptop. He’d allowed you to use it while yours was in the shop after you’d clumsily spilled coffee on it during a passionate phone conversation with a client. The laptop’s keyboard no longer lit, and you couldn’t use M’s, 7’s or J’s. At first, you’d tried to survive without it, but it got to be too much when writing papers, sending emails, and creating content. Your then-beloved boyfriend came to the rescue and allowed you to borrow his while he was away.
You were never the snooping type, and your discovery of the images that made your blood boil was entirely accidental. You finished your paper earlier than expected, and you decided to change Calum’s desktop background to a picture of you two, just as a cute gesture. Of course you had to open the photos app, and to your surprise, images of your lover and another were flooding your mind. You wanted to close the laptop, to put it away, but you simply couldn’t. Your eyes traced the images, some more lewd than others, and you found the coordinating dates. One image two days after your birthday, a dozen from his random days on tour, and finally the one that broke your heart. A single image from Valentine’s Day. The image wasn’t entirely lewd, but that seemed to hurt worse. The way his arms held the woman reminded you of his arms around you, and that made you sick to your stomach. Pained and heartbroken, you closed the laptop and stood from your shared bed.
Calum had been gone out of town visiting family, and you knew that to be true. Mali Koa was sure to call you so you could hear your boyfriend’s obnoxious snoring. Still, you couldn’t help but wonder where this mystery woman had come from. Was she a friend of his? Someone from back home? Or even worse, was he consistently flying her to his hotel room? The thoughts swam, and you felt like the room was spinning. Finally, after reeling for a few minutes, you grabbed ahold of your sanity. “It takes two to tango,” you mumbled, storming off into the walk-in closet the two of you shared. The wheels were turning, and you’d found a multi-tier answer to the issue—get him back.
First, you packed every single thing you owned. This didn’t stop at the clothes and shoes. You packed every mug you’d bought, every towel, and even every bit of your “playtime toys”. He didn’t deserve that. He didn’t deserve to have an semblance left of you. While packing, you were sure to leave items he’d bought for you, as a true severance. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself knowing that you’d deliberately left things he’d gotten so that you erased him all together. After the items, you opened his laptop once again and changed the desktop background to the image from his special Valentine’s Day. After doing so, you deleted every picture the two of you had, and emptied his “recycling bin” on the desktop.
Finally, and this was the most devious part, you called up Ashton. Calum knew that Ashton had always kept a lingering eye on you. He could feel the shift in atmosphere whenever you and Ash were left alone, and that made him nervous. Calum never called you out for cheating, but now you realized why; too much suspicion would’ve been incriminatory. Your plans for Ashton were no more than a single hookup, but it turned into multiple. Ashton’s hands on you felt like fire, and though your love for Calum still lingered, Ash was sure to distract you for a while.
Calum’s return home was more than shocking, especially when he found the polaroids that you’d taken during a hookup with Ashton scattered around his bed. His heart sank because he knew he’d done wrong and that it was unfixable. A sigh left his lips as he searched for the words to say, something to calm the nerves he felt. He should’ve known that playing the field was going to get him struck out, but he still couldn’t shake the shock. The most heartbreaking part was the discovery of his changed laptop background accompanied by a note you’d left him on his pillow.
“Dear Calum, I am deeply sorry to have found out this way. I am even more sorry that I hadn’t slept with Ashton sooner. Then, this would hurt less. Valentine’s Day in Vegas, huh? Well, I hope you had fun. You know, I thought that we were stable in our relationship. I remember when people would say we were so compatible, that we looked so good together. We felt good together, my body felt good wrapped in yours. That’s why I stayed. After feeling you and me together, I couldn’t stay alone, all by myself. Well, I haven’t the slightest clue why I can’t stay alone by myself, so I’ve got Ashton to keep me company. Have fun, temporary lover., Y/N”.
Calum’s blood boiled at the tone of your words, the implications they had, and still he couldn’t shake the way he got turned on remembering how well you wrapped around him. A sigh left his lips as his hands tugged through his hair, and he realized he’d truly fucked up.
