This project, 596 Acres & the people who came up with it is just phenomenal !  This is a truly radical & highly effective way to use the internet’s higher capacities to a much fuller/more wholesomely pragmatic & beneficial for all kind of way!  Tis time to communally claim the Commons Land Tis time to heal lot by lot !  Anyone else know of similar conceptual projects happening?

Brooklyn is totally filled with community gardens. There is  one on every block  some places.  They are inaccessible! they are open two hours a week or you have to go through red tape and bullshit. what are they thinking? This is the most backward law. Neutering the power of community gardens to have a beneficial effect on the community and teach people about nature by existing. I have complained many times and it does no good. At the seattle permaculture food forest they said that the thing everyone asks is what happens if homeless people eat it all? their answer is great! It's their dream that all the food would get eaten. Cats would thrive there and stop any disease transmitting rodents (that also have a right to eat and are smart). A simple closed circuit camera would deter anyone from harvesting all of it to sell. And grazing should be totally okay. Let's stop being so selfish about little 5x5 plots of land and share natures abundance. I saw a little garden without a fence and spent an hour cleaning up all the trash and weeding. Take that ugly nonsense down! it's called permaculture.

Really cool work happening from an organization called 596 Acres. I'm curious to see what kind of successes they have. Yes, finding vacant lots and making the connection to their greater possibilities are two parts of the problem. Yet it seems to be that building and sustaining momentum from the activists will be the hardest part. Maybe the community they're building online can manage that speed bump; I sure hope so.
