Week 8/52: Chichigüa Today was Independence Day in the Dominican Republic. Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and the road to Holy Week begins. Spring is coming and that means I have to dust off my old kite, or “chichigüa” as it is locally know. This type of chichigua is usually found near the waterfront in Santo Domingo. This one specifically sports our flag and its blue, red and white colors. Seeing it soar up in the sky makes me feel all joyful inside. This is a beautiful spoonbill. I love photographing birds, I know the basic ones, but would love to learn more. I think they are such amazing and beautiful creatures! One day I'll be photographing them in the wild, but until then I can practice and share their beauty from zoos. I have always loved flamingos. The sounds they make,their pink and black feathers, and those long legs....they are amazing creatures!
