#5 random things

I left the country for the first time in ten years. Three times. And every single time was because of Young Royals.

I contacted (and subsequently ghosted) a tattoo artist about my first tattoo. But had no qualms getting five more piercings.

I spread some Marmite love. (And some Marmite hate).

In the spirit of dropping your phone in things, I dropped my phone in a rockpool in Wales 🫠

I knitted my first jumper.

1. I wrote - and finally worked up the courage to upload - my first smutty scene in my fic. (Wrote a second smutty scene for the latest chapter and that took about six months to complete…mostly because I lost track of where hands and other body parts needed to go 😂).

2. I had a belated 40th birthday celebration in London and getting to watch the Moulin Rouge musical and eat delicious food and be a tourist at the Tower of London was all just so special. Had forgotten how great London is.

3. I watched so many boys kissing boys and girls kissing girls on my screen and it was such a treat to see so much queer rep from different countries (Old Fashion Cupcake remains my favourite BL but I’m still processing the rawness of ITSAY and feeling fuzzy about She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat 🥺. For new shows, Love For Love’s Sake kicked off the year with a beautiful existential crisis, Unknown and The On1y One gave a fresh take on the brothers trope, and I’m in full brainrot over FadelStyle in The Heart Killers).

4. I had to deal with a lot of red tape in my personal life but hopefully things will get easier in 2025.

5. I rediscovered poetry and want to be Hollie McNish when I grow up.

1. I have a talent for remembering obscure facts. It makes me good at trivia games!

2. I saw all three original Star Wars movies when they first came out (yes, I’m that old).

3. My family won a small goldfish at a school fair when I was a teenager, and that fish grew to be about 4 inches long and lived for a few years.  

4. When we were young (late teens), my brother and I used to sing along to the Les Miserables cast album for fun and play all the roles. Most of the female parts were too high for my voice, but I still did my best. Since there were so many male roles and he couldn’t realistically sing them all, we split them up.  Even years later, we have been known to surprise people by breaking out singing “The Confrontation” (he sings Javert, I sing Valjean). 

5. I live in a house that’s over 100 years old.

1. Despite being a big reader, I’m surprisingly selective and will often choose to re-read an old favorite, rather than hunt down something new. To me, immersion in a world is more important than new twists or reveals. 

2. Jackets. I love thin zip-up sweatshirts/jackets (not a fan of pull-overs) and I own way too many of them. Oddly this has led me to not own a single long sleeve shirt... 

3. The house I live in contains a loop. This confuses the heck out of people the first few times they’re over, but we have two sets of stairs that go to the second floor at opposite ends of the house. One of the most entertaining things to do is leave from one direction, then come back from the other and without fail, the person’s response is: O.O   o.O’   O.o’   O.O’ (You can just see the wheels turning :P)

4. One of my favorite things about winter... is pomegranates :P The ginormous ones from Costco are the best. I love the taste and the crunch of the seeds, plus they’re just fun to open and eat.
