It has been ten days since my last blog about my attempt at creating a universal phone bike mount. Click Here to view my previous post on my first day trying to make a bike mount. I was able to make a simple change from removing my multiple-hole design on my bracket to a single long hole. With this change, my side hook can easily slide in order to secure any phone to the bracket.
I was able to increase the length of the bracket in order to add another sliding hook at the top. This will easily secure any phone from jumping up and down as you ride your bicycle across bumping roads.
The Idea of adding “Sliding brackets” came from my struggle of trying to fit my friend’s phone onto my bracket. I was having a hard time prototyping my previous design with my friends Samsung Note 4 phone because the holes weren’t aligning correctly. This meant that I could secure his phone properly and I immediately had to rethink my design.
So I went home and tried to examine the bracket one more time. I then Found the idea when I was using my phone mount for my tripod. I loved the sliding feature of the mount and I tried to copy the design. Here is what I made.
The design worked better than expected with some minor issues and concerns. I fount that I might have to increase the brackets corners just in case the screws break off. I might have to increase the length of the brackets in order to accommodate larger phones.

My prototype still needs work. I am still having issues with tightening the screws in order to properly secure my cellphone. I believe this struggle will cause me to over think how I might want to the approach the entire build. I might to get rid of the sliding function and rethink on how can I properly secure my phone better.
I have learned a lot about making a good bracket. Even though this 2nd try has only led me to go back to the drawing board, I have realized that I just trying to find a better solution that works for all. I do have another idea in mind that I plan to blog about. It will be my next blog in the near future.
