Legendary #nyc #punk and #newwave #club #cbgb opened at #315bowery in #1973. At the time owner #hillykristal planned for it to be a venue for #country #bluegrass and #blues #music, the first letters of each creating the titular acronym. The arrival of the #ramones in #1974 followed by #pattismith #blonde #television #talkingheads #voidoids #cramps and many others who would play at the club made it famous. The #Bowery was a very rough neighbourhood at the time and the club was notorious for the drunks, drug addicts and prostitutes that surrounded it. It continued to operate as a showplace for local bands and an essential stop for visiting acts until 2006, when a rent dispute led to its closure. A final gig with performances by many of the bands who got their start at the club was held oct 10, 2006. It is now an upmarket clothing boutique with only the address to remind people of what once was there.
