one thing i really adore about wof (and that i find fairly rare re: bl media, or for a series to do so by means that feels genuine and or fits the greater story being told) is the softening of all the og boys of koās gang as the others are integrated. like. these are some rude, brash, foul-mouthed boys you first meet. but fairly soon you see that thereās more to that front as ko is of regular aid to his neighbor he allegedly disdains (albeit being a lil shit about it). and itās almost immediate. augarās absent use of gu/mueng to address achi. koās similar if irregular usage of rao/nai for ko song. the iāll remember your name when we again meet, or the going from that seatās not yours (derogatory) to the wood bears your nameāsit there, always.
and thatās all good but to the degree that ko and augar retain that softening as the other boysā feelings bloom beyond the bounds of being that for your āgood buddyā is staggering for me. augarās re-writing of achiās wordsāhis gentle nudging that he share his feelingsāto subtly making the basket, smug about all that that means. koās refusal to be distant about the kiss (or for ko song to resume doing so) disregarding his self and unsure gaggle of feelings. his hand-holding reassuring that he doesnāt feel a bit of anger or resentment for it. like. ko and augar are handling these boys (gay boys) so so dearly and measuredly, and more so as their feelings are ones they didnāt autonomously admit, and at the time (and beside the setting) that they did.
and more beautifully absurd about it is that both had referred to ko song and achi as their nongs, and it really feels more and more as if that is so. like. age aside, these are fundamentally ābadā boy seniors forgoing all their big egos and rash immaturity for the sake of these good and darling, if a bit stiffly mannered, longing-made kiddos.
in other dramas, there are moments, sure, brief and fleeting, of softened demeanors from the sort of boys that embody koās gangās, but for ko and augar, itās more a means of being. it doesnāt feels rehearsed or suddenāitās a genuine if deliberate shift thatās made for the softer boys its molded to meet, demonstrated from the first day that they shielded said boys from bullies. and one thatās beginning to manifest for august, too, as he realises tleās feelings.
Oh, I do love these boys. They're such cutie pies.
I really appreciate when oranges fall for showing Ko Neung slowly and easily falling in love with Ko Song, without him actually realizing it
Even right in the beginning he got grumpy when they had to be apart for a period of time and it was so obvious that his friends teased him
The urge to follow him around because heās curious and getting jealous when other people approach him, even if he canāt name it
Not being able to enjoy the trip with his friends because Ko Song is missing. Also feeling hurt because Ko Song just disappeared on him
Feeling the happiest when Ko Song is around
And August catching up, asking him straightforward but Ko Neung denying it (I think he genuinely never even thought about it)
But then he reflects on it and realizes, yeah he might actually like him. He didnāt know that him falling for Ko Song was an option but now that itās in the open, he canāt deny it anymore
