Re-draw of a Jamie Hewlett's sketch
2D
May I introduce you guys to yet another project of mine? This time it’s not a book, but a game! I’ve always wanted to try to make my own games, they tie into one nice package so many of my interests (writing, art, animation, coding), so now I’m making one! I’ll start small and I’ll try to make one level first as a test of sorts so I can flesh out the game mechanic for example. I’m not sure how much I’ll make posts about it, but I’ll probably do some updates on my progress, maybe post some concept art.
WORKING TITLE: Monster of the Castle
GENRE: Puzzle with dungeon crawling elements, psychological thriller, gothic horror/suspense, historical fiction
GRAPHICS: 2.5D - maybe isometric, not sure yet - meaning 2D graphics but with the appearance of three dimensions
ENGINE: Unity 2D
SETTING: An abandoned 1200 century castle
SYNOPSIS: A young noble lady of the castle is plagued by a family curse; she is slowly turning into a monster from the depths of hell. But she knows there is a cure created by her uncle, hidden deep inside of her ancestral home. To get to the cure she has to through the numerous traps protecting it. However, nothing is as it seems and hidden secrets must be uncovered before she can free herself form the curse.
MAIN CHARACTER: The main character is Lady Rohesia, a lone resident of the castle. She is beautiful and somber, like a maiden of her status should, but beneath that she is determinated, headstrong, a bit vain, very clever and extremely lonely. Just like the castle itself, she has pockets full of secrets too, some of which she even keeps from herself.
At this point I’m in very early stages. I’m in a bit of a learning curve, I’ve coded with C a lot and though C sharp has similar syntax and logic, it’s different language and there’s a lot to learn. This is also my first time using Unity. I’ve done some of the basics, like character movement and interactions and inventories etc. But there’s so much to do still. Now I’m doing some concept art and I’ll have to decide what specific game play mechanics I want to use.
Look how cute he is, trying to escape from the cruel players we are

These are a couple of GIFs from our gameplay video of the museum game, Old Souls. It was a collaboration project between bachelors and master game-students at KADK. I was the Art Director on the project, but I also ended up producing some assets (but I love doing that).
