The tale of two 2012 Chardonnays. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. As we re-organize our wine cellar this week, I found two 2012 Chardonnays and thought it was a good time to open them up. We paired them with lamb, which many people will find strange, but I thought it was a very nice pairing. ————————————————- The first wine was 2012 Marimar “Acero” Chardonnay from Sonoma County. We were club members for several years, and still huge fans of this winery, so I was interested to see how the 2012 would hold up. The second wine was a Nottingham Cellars from Arroyo Seco in Monterey. The latter wine was very deep golden color, like apple juice, and on the nose was all mango and overripe apple. Wasn’t getting a lot of anything else and this was reinforced on the palate - all fruit juice and no acid to speak of. After 30-45 minutes some acid did materialize and the wine was drinkable but not great. By contrast, the Marimar from the same year, aged in 100% stainless steel, was still fresh, zippy, acidic, mineral-driven, with nice citrus and apple zestiness. I would not have guessed the wine was 7 years old. ———————————————— #chardonnay #2012vintage #whitewine #whitewinelover #sonomawine #winesofsonoma #chardonnaylovers #sonomacounty #sonomacountywine #visitsonomawinecountry #sonomawinecountry #winecountrylife #marimartorres #marimarwinery https://www.instagram.com/p/B5YAKc0HWvh/?igshid=14wwudhn8prxw
