Cheers to the weekend guys! It is a quick holiday for me in Hungary so I have all the reasons to celebrate. And what's better than with one of my favourite French AOP from the Rhone Valley? Saint-Peray is situated in the northern part and on the right bank of the Rhône river and only a white wine appellation with unique grape varieties such as Marsanne and Roussanne. This Saint-Peray 2019 from Cave de Tain @cavedetain only contains hand-picked grapes of Marsanne on 40 years old vines. Cave de Tain is a very renowned producer of this region with high quality wines in their range. I am sharing more information about them in my stories today and we'll discover more wines in the coming days by this cooperative. Now let's focus on this Saint-Peray! A vivid pale lemon colored wine with medium viscosity. The nose has ripe stone fruits (apricot, peaches) with lemon, pear, acacia, white blossom flowers with some minerality. This is a dry wine with high acidity, medium plus alcohol and a medium plus body with creamy texture and flavours of lemon, peach, apple, honeysuckle and butter (the wine has been on fine lees with stirring). It has a long mineral finish. Very good quality which can be consumed in the next 3-5 years on 10-12°C. A great choice next to fish and seafood based dishes with a creamier sauce, grilled vegetables and a cheese board. Have you tasted a Saint-Peray before? It has been a while since my last Bordeaux wine, nevertheless a white. Entre-Deux-Mers is a sub-region where we can find good value white, red and sweet Bordeaux wines. This wine is a blend of Sauvignon blanc, Semillon with a touch of Muscadelle. I have already presented a beautiful full-bodied wine from Vigneron Chaigne et Fils @rchbx so I was excited to taste something else from their portfolio! A medium deep golden color with silver hue and a medium plus viscosity appear in the glass. The nose has freshly cut grass, green bell pepper, lemonpeel, elderflower, acacia, apricot and grapefruit. Dry wine with high acidity, medium alcohol and medium body. Flavours of lemon, grapefruit, green bell pepper and elderflower leads us to a medium plus lenght. A very good quality wine which best to drink in the next 3-5 years when it is chilled to 8-10°C. Have it next to a charcuterie board, seafood platter, sushi or creamy cheeses. Who doesn't like to sip on a good Riesling? The ultimate choice due to its diversity from dry to sweet, still or sparkling version, everyone can find their prefered style. And its aromaticness makes it even more appealing to novice wine drinkers. Famille Hauller's @famillehauller Riesling Cuvée Prestige is a lighter, drier version, coming from mainly granit soil and organic farming. It has a deeper yellow color with medium viscosity. The nose is dominated by citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), white blossom flowers, apple, pear and a touch of white pepper. A dry wine on the palate with medium plus acidity, medium alcohol and a medium body. The flavours are similar to the ones from the nose, apple, lemon, grapefruits with a medium plus lenght. Does Chateauneuf-du-Pape AOP sounds familiar? If yes, I am pretty sure you had a red wine but did you know this appellation produces some excellent white wines as well? And I got a true rarity for you: the Edmée le Roy by Château Fortia @chateau.fortia is a unique wine due to its limited production: only 2 hectares of the vineyard are devoted to its production. It is a delicate blend of Roussanne and Clairette with a touch of Grenache Blanc. It has a light golden color with a silver hue and medium viscosity. We have ripe stone fruits (apricot, peach) on the nose with lemon, pear, acacia, honeysuckle, butter and brioche with some ripe passion fruit aromas. A dry wine, high acidity, a medium plus alcohol and creamy texture with a medium plus body shows flavours of stone fruits, lemonpeel, butter, honeysuckle and brioche with a mineral medium plus finish. It is a very good quality wine which best to drink in the next 5-10 years on 10-12°C. Beautifully pairs with creamy pasta dishes, asian style dumplings, chicken and pork dishes as well as creamy cheeses. A very gastronomic wine although I have very much enjoyed on its own too! We are continue our tasting through the Prestige Cuvée's of Famille Hauller @famillehauller in Alsace and today's focus is on this Sylvaner or Grüner Silvaner as they call it in Germany. This is the variety which only recently (2006) was included into the group of grapes in Alsace from which you can have a Grand Cru wine, although only from one vineyard, Zotzenberg. This Sylvaner has a pale golden color with silver hue and a medium viscosity. On the smell ripe fruity and floral aromas dominate with honeysuckle, yellow blossom flowers, pear, golden apple, apricot, orange and pineapple. The palate shows us a dry wine with medium plus acidity, medium alcohol and a slightly creamy medium body with flavours of the nose and some briochy character. It has a medium plus, pleasant lenght. A very good quality wine which best to drink in the next couple of years (until 2023) on 8-10°C. A very gastronomic wine, perfect with creamy pasta dishes, tuna tartare, charcuterie or creamy cheeses. Another great value wine, in Austria you can get it from Das Weinhaus for only 8,90€!
