#2012!dan

Dan: I think we need some space!

Because I got a lot of questions after my last post about what happened in 2012…

(I’m sorry this is very long btw omg…and my English is not perfect!)

So, 2012 really wasn’t a good time in the phandom :/ well more for Dan and Phil (especially for dan). lt was the year when both got a lot of followers and stuff and a lot of people started shipping them and throwing phan in their faces (which is still not cool, so please don’t <3 ). You can even see it in their videos around that time. In 2009 until 2011 d&p were very comfortable around each other. You could see how close they were (as friends or more..up to you ;) ). If you watch the videos from like 2009-2011 you’ll see a lot of touching and just fooling around..and generally A LOT of videos together.. Then the rumours started and especially Dan got really uncomfortable. They didn’t film videos together or did any joined liveshows like they used to do. Dan really avoided the whole “phan” thing (relationship or not, doesn’t matter)..it was just really concerning. Dan, for example, lied about how they met on Twitter and in his liveshows..people think he was trying very hard to cover up some stuff but we don’t know that for sure.. Sure thing is that none of them actually made a video explaning what was going on. Personally I just think that something personal was happening in their lives. But as I mentioned..Dan’s behaviour was kinda confusing.. Like, when was kinda rude to random fans for shipping phan..which wasn’t a problem for him before..at least he didn’t mention it.. That was of course not very nice of him, but tbh I can’t blame him..people were over analyzing everything (and they still do..) and it made him uncomfortable so he just got mad at everyone. It was probably a bit too personal for him idk.. As I said.. no explanation he just kinda, didn’t really touch Phil, didn’t mention phan or Phil..actually didn’t really liked talking about Phil at all around 2012.

So you see why we’re scared that they might get uncomfortable again when people start bringing up Phan..:/

Remember Skillet’s album “Rise” from 2013? There’s a track on it which perfectly suits 2012!Dan. What song is it, I bet you’re asking. It’s “Salvation”. Yeah, a song based around trying to keep faith in the Lord from a Christian’s perspective. But, let’s look at the lyrics and see if we can find anything similar to 2012!Dan. (Anything that is bold is lyrics from the song, italics means that it is very important in terms of seeing how it suits Dan)

All alone, lost in this abyss, crawling in the dark - OK, remember what Dan called an existential crisis? An abyss or whirlpool which is generally very dark. Great start already!

Nothing to wet my longing lips, and I wonder where you are... - OK, in 2012, there was some tension between Dan and Phil after a certain video was leaked from what I’ve gathered. And if you have been here for a long time or have found out about said video, you should know a very personal fact was leaked to the public view. So, think of the “nothing to wet my longing lips” in a romantic sense, and you get kisses.

Are you near? Are you far? Will you come to my rescue? Am I left to die? But I can’t give up on you. - OK, back to the existential crisis talk. We all know that Phil is the biggest helper to Dan through these times, so, in 2012, imagine the awkwardness from the tension that was present. But, at the same time, Phil wasn’t just gonna leave Dan to suffer by himself. He’s too kind and considerate to do that. And Dan would’ve known that.

Crawling out from under who I am, and who I wanna be. Held you tightly in my hands; why are we unravelling? Was it me? Will you come to my rescue or did I push too far when I turned my back on you? - Most of this explains itself. As said, the tension between Dan and Phil were quite obvious, so, if we were to imagine they were dating, imagine the distance they would put between each other. So, Dan - and maybe Phil - would have to ask exactly WHY were they unravelling? And given what relationships are like... Well, let’s leave it there.

Touch you, taste you, give it all just to find you. Hold me, heal me; I will find you! - This sounds like Phil talking to Dan when he’s stuck in a crisis tbh. Think of it; Dan isn’t properly himself when in an existential crisis, but in the end, Phil helps him come around. So, it’s like Phil found Dan.

Keeping me alive, you are my salvation! x2/ Our love will never die. You are my salvation! (Touch you, taste you, feel you here)/(Hold me, heal me, keep me near.) - OK, this basically explains itself.

My heart will burn for you; it’s all I can do. - Literally sums up everything I just said.
