Game 7 of the World Series: this is for all the marbles, all the glory. It is the ultimate 1nDun game.

The Royals pounded the Giants in Game 6; 10 to 0, using a monster 7-run second inning to tie the series at 3-a-piece and force the deciding Game 7.

The Royals had 15 hits (to the Giants 6) so all of the top 5 highest scoring players were Royals: Mike Moustakas (10 point cost) had 20 points; Lorenzo Cain (10 pt cost) has 16 points; Eric Hosmer (15 pt cost) had 12 points; and Alcides Escobar (15 pt cost) & Omar Infante (25 pt cost) each had 10 points.

The offensive surge by the Royals and the offensive malaise from the Giants have really evened out the point tiers for Game 7.

The Royals hitters continue to be the value picks after a few bad games in San Francisco and the Giants hot hitters (Pence, Panik, and Panda) were the few bright spots in an otherwise dreary Game 6.

As the National League Championship Series moves to San Francisco for games 3 – 4 – 5, fans of both teams will be focused on their catchers for very different reasons.  In a rare match-up of perennial MVP backstops, Giants’ Buster Posey (20) will be counted on to anchor a sometimes anemic offense, while Cards’ severely banged up Yadier Molina (5) may not play another game in this series.  Molina’s oblique injury will force serviceable, but postseason-inexperienced Tony Cruz (5) and veteran-enigma A.J. Pierzynski (5), into arguably the most important position on the diamond.  Pierzynski will start Game 3.

Through 2 games, with each team winning once in St. Louis, this Series looks to be slightly more entertaining than its American League counterpart.   Game 3 (Today, Tuesday) will feature heady veteran pitchers John Lackey (STL) going against Tim Hudson (SF).  For Game 4 (Wednesday) the Cardinals are going with young Shelby Miller (24 y/o – 3 yrs MLB) against the once dominant 37 y/o veteran Ryan Vogelsong.

Pitching was the headliner in Game 1 when Madison Bumgarner shut out the Cardinals at Busch and the Cards’ bats took over in Game 2 with home-runs by Matt Carpenter (30), Oscar Taveras (5), Matt Adams (25), and a walk-off by Kolton Wong (20).  The Giants have not hit any home-runs in the NLCS yet but scored on one of the craziest plays you’ll see this postseason – PR Matt Duffy scored from 2nd on a full count wild pitch ball 4 with 2 on, 2 outs in the top of the 9th to tie the game (Game 2).

Our June Fantasy Baseball Challenge features two teams heading in the opposite directions this season - the #Tigers (40-32) take on the #Rangers (35-40) at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday night.

After a brief scare from the surging Royals, the Tigers have won 4 straight and lead the AL Central by 2.5 games.  In those 4 games they’ve outscored their opponents 33-13, including a 3-game sweep of the Indians in Cleveland.  Surprisingly, their pitching has been a bit shaky with their 2 Cy-Young winners – Verlander & Scherzer – recording ERA’s of 6.23 & 9.90, respectively, in their last 2 starts.  Wednesday’s starter, Anibal Sanchez, was stellar in his last outing vs. Cleveland, earning the win in 7 strong innings with a line of 5 hits, 1 ER, and 1 BB.

The Texas Rangers have been decimated by injuries and have a glut of minor league talent plugging the holes in their everyday lineup.  They’ve lost 5 in a row, having been outscored 15-29, including getting swept by the Angels in Anaheim.  The Rangers would be in last place in the AL West if not for the Houston Astros who will battle them for 4th before the season is over.  The Rangers currently have 14 players on the DL (Disabled List) including 5 players out for the season – the biggest (pun intended) being All-Star off-season acquisition Prince Fielder who underwent neck surgery on May 27th for a herniated disk.
