NFC Champ QuickSnap: Cardinals@Panthers
Many people believe that the quarterback matchup in this game between Carson Palmer and Cam Newton will be more exciting to watch than the matchup in the first game. And they might be right. These two teams came into the playoffs as the two highest scoring offenses in the NFL while also featuring two very excellent defenses as well. On top of that, both teams are coached to win, often taking risks that traditional coaches would not take. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top once the dust has settled in what promises to be an exciting game.
The Arizona Cardinals come into this game off one of their more sluggish performances against the Green Bay Packers. QB Carson Palmer (30pts) threw a couple interceptions in that game, which could come back to hurt them if he does so again against this Carolina defense. Luckily Palmer has perhaps the best receiving corps in the NFL at his disposal. The trio of WR Larry Fitzgerald (25pts), WR Michael Floyd (25pts) and WR John Brown (20pts) is one of the most exciting in the league. Add in the explosiveness of rookie RB David Johnson (30pts) out of the backfield, and it’s no wonder this team was one of the top two in scoring. The Panthers do feature a very strong defensive secondary that will attempt to bottle up the explosive plays from the starting WRs. With that in mind, our value pick for this game is WR Jaron Brown (5pts) who could see some opportunities come his way.
On the other side of the field, the Panthers are led by MVP candidate QB Cam Newton (30pts) who is one of the more exciting young quarterbacks in the league. Newton continues to shine as he has developed great chemistry with his TE Greg Olsen (25pts) who is also his favorite target. Outside of Olsen, Newton relies on the likes of WR Cameron Artis-Payne (20pts) and rookie WR Ted Ginn Jr. (15pts). The Panthers could look to control the clock in this game to limit the offensive opportunities for the Cardinals, and if they do take that route, expect RB Jonathan Stewart (15pts) to see the bulk of the action. Stewart actually went off for 100+ yards against the Seahawks defense that had not allowed a 100-yard rusher in over 20 games. As always with the Panthers, there is a chance that RB Mike Tolbert (15pts) will vulture some goal line carries, as will Cam Newton.
