私の最初のNFLとの出会いは、今から35年前の1990年の第24回スーパーボウルです。

エースQB（クォーターバック、攻撃陣の司令塔）のジョー・モンタナ選手が大活躍し、サンフランシスコ49ersがデンバー・ブロンコスに55-10で圧勝した試合でした。当時ニューヨークにいて、アメリカンフットボールに詳しい友人と共にテレビ中継を観戦しました。

大きい、強い、速い、機敏、そして気迫あふれるスーパーアスリートたちの中で、ひときわ輝いていたのが、知的で冷静さを兼ね備えたジョー・モンタナ選手でした。

その後私はずっと、ニューヨーク・ジェッツのファンとして注目してきました。しかし、ニューヨーク・ジェッツは低迷したシーズンが多かったのでNHK-BSで放映された試合は限られ、すっかり縁遠くなっていました。その上NHK BSでの中継が数年前に終了となりました。

最近、アメリカに行った友人から「YouTubeでハイライトが随時配信されているよ」と情報を得ました。これを機に、再びNFLに注目しようと思います。
