Find me... A short-horned chameleon (Calumma brevicorne) well disguised among branches and lichens into the Andasibe National Park forest, Madagascar. An amazing animal of an amazing place that’s well worth protecting. The area around the park is heavily destroyed and even park’s borders are “nibbled” my small cultivations and Eucalyptus trees. Tripping to Madagascar’s rainforests this year was a bless and a curse to me. Australiasian Grebes are the smallest species of #Australian grebe. They're common throughout Australia, often nesting in lakes on suburban parklands. A pair have started defending their section of a local dam. At this stage in the season they are on-edge, responding to my squeaks and poor imitations of their calls by simultaneously running/flying across the water and calling. I saw this gecko, the palmated gecko (Pachydactylus rangei) quite a lot of times in the last years, during my visits and photography tours in Namibia. But I never have enough! Madagascar bright-eyed treefrog (Boophis madagascariensis) active at night into the secondary forest along the road close to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. Some species can thrive well even in secondary forest, but many others will not survive when the primary one is cut and Madagascar is on the brink of collapsing. My trip there into the central-eastern part showed me endless poverty. If a miracle will not happen soon, the society and the biodiversity of this amazing place is doomed. And I'm an endless optimist! For the #endangeredspeciesday what else I could choose if not a Deserta Grande Wolf spider (Hogna ingens) inside its habitat.
