aahhhhh...I haven't ended Tuesdays so early since forever.
Jessie J was our guest judge this week and to be honest I have doubts about her judging ability but at least she's not judging ballroom. She also performed Bang Bang for the opening number which was guess who's song in week 1. Hmm...
Lots of underscoring tonight. Dammit TPTB I spend my in-between-2-exam-papers-break watching videos instead of revising and you make me feel like I wasted my time.
Antonio and Allison: Bollywood I thought this was ok content wise. My Indian friend said they looked quite convincing. Found Antonio's jumps a little spastic though. And was that small Allison solo section necessary? Ending felt a bit like Amy's freestyle. 8-6-7-7 T28
Bethany and Mark: Hip hop Cute dance, although I think the transitions between side-by-side and couple sections could have been better. I think this is Bethany's best dance yet! She looked all-out with energy. I've also been waiting for Mark to do hip hop for a while now so loved this dance! 8-8-8-8 T32. Couldn't spare a 9, could you?
Jonathan and Peta: Jitterbug Jonathan still doesn't look too sure on his feet, but I think this was definitely better than the samba! How could it get the same score??! Allison, this is how you show off your partner. Fun routine. Not the best, but I enjoyed watching it. Tad underscored. 6-6-6-6 T24
Alfonso and Cheryl: Flamenco First impression: damnnnn that feet! Nice clean dance all around. I'm not very familiar with this style of dance so I don't really know what to say here but I think we can all agree it should have been 9 across the board? 8-9-9-8 T34
Janel and Artem: Burlesque I had no idea what burlesque looked like before they announced Janel's dance, so I went to watch some videos and let's just say my impression of this dance wasn't good to begin with. Tbh I wouldn't really call it dancing. Artem infused some jazz-ness into this which I think was a smart move because I don't know what they'd be doing for 90s if he didn't. It was hot and sexy, but a little to the point of cringeworthy. Or maybe that's just me being conservative. And to no one's surprise, Bruno pulls out a 9 one dance too late. 8-8-8-9 T33 This is no way beats Alfonso and Bethany.
Michael and Witney: Disco for starters, the costumes don't look very disco-ey and I didn't really get a disco feel from this. Michael was stiff as a board. If there are still people arguing the Bill Engvall 2 thing, I would label this dance as the big disprover. I think Bill would have at least still bob to the beat or something. 5-5-5-5 T20
Tommy and Emma: Mambo I feel bad for Tommy because the last mambo ever performed on this show won an Emmy (not to mention the couple totally deserved to win that season but that's another story) so he has a lot to live up to. I get that his dances are slower but they could have at least given him a more energetic song anyway! I think it was even slower than the cha-cha, but at least he can still do everything perfectly fine. Lacked the usual Tommy fun-ness 6-6-5-6 T23
Lea and Val: Broadway This was a nice sweet number but I think it lacked energy. Val also choreographed for lots of small footwork but I think he could have afforded to go bigger. Come on, it's such a fun song! Lea looked good as usual but at times kinda delicate. But I liked it waaaaaay better than 'America' 8-8-8-8 T32
*Sadie and Derek: Charleston Man, I love Derek's charlestons! WHERE ARE THE TENS??? Amazing, energized routine (something I feel was lacking this entire episode) which was well in synch. I think the only problem was at one point Sadie's arms were straight and stiff when she could have loosened in and when she walkovered out of the lift her legs were bent but they only add up to about 3 seconds. 9-9-9-9 T36
No elimination tonight. I think Michael and Jonathan are in jeopardy and I would personally send Michael home. They showed us Tony's audition tape and what with his hair!
