The irony of the thirteenth amendment ended “abolished” slavery within the United States, but it started another form of slavery which is mass incarceration. The abolishing of slavery in 1865, would bring about another form of slavery that would impact Black people from generation to generation from elders to young people!

As the slave-holding state most geographically removed from Washington, there were few Union soldiers in Texas and the slave-owners certainly did not volunteer to tell slaves in the Confederate States of America (i.e., Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama) had already been freed formally by law issued on January 1, 1863. Texas had been a holdout state where enslavement continued, despite President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation to end slavery two years before in 1863. The 13 amendment took the power from the courts to enforce slavery as a state right... the emancipation proclamation was a war time act... it was only enforcible because of the presidents war time powers... ONCE THE CIVIL WAR ENDED THE COURTS WOULD NOT UPHOLD THE PROCLAMATION!!! Which is why the president push and had the amendment passed.. so @kanyewest @troubleman31 and all others who think abolishing the 13 amendment would be good think again!!!
