There’s a guy standing by the pool outside my window. He’s at the edge, topless, his face looking into the distance like he’s not really planning on going in.
From my bedroom, his body looks like something carved out of marble. Massive, sharp, six packs you could open a coke bottle with. His pecs are bigger than my two fists put together.
If an alien were to down from the sky and see this man standing outside my window -- I thought, as I stared at the man outside my window -- and an equally topless woman standing outside with breasts the same size as the man’s pecs (which of course will not happen here), the alien wouldn’t be able to deduce why it’s socially acceptable for one of the humans to be out in public presenting like that, and not acceptable for the other.
“It’s probably because breasts jiggle, and pecs don’t,” my friend M suggested when I told her.
“What about women whose breasts don’t jiggle?”
“Nah fam, all breasts jiggle.”
“But what’s inherently indecent about jiggling?” I asked.
The way I see it, pecs have no utility outside of the ornamental. Sure, they come in handy when lifting heavy things, but since when is an urban liberal english-speaking millennial living in Bangsar lifting heavy things because he has to?
“One of the things I miss when running in Malaysia,” my friend M said -- a different M -- “is running without a t-shirt.”
“You can’t run in just your sports bra here?” I asked.
“Some women do,” she said, “Mostly white women. But I can’t. People stare.”
As I stare at the guy standing by the pool outside my window, I wonder why I think firm pecs and six-pack abs are inherently sexy. I wonder if I’d be staring, thinking, and writing about the same guy if he had what the kids these day call a “dad bod”.
And I wonder if I’d be writing this at all if I lived in a society where it wouldn’t be unusual to see a woman do the same.

Malam ini diadakan debat capres cawapres keempat atau terakhir. Debat kali ini tentu saja bisa dibilang menjadi penentu bagaimana akhirnya masyarakat menjatuhkan pilihan pada 17 April nanti. . Segala visi dan misi telah dijelaskan dengan gamblang. Dibarengi dengan adu data dan juga argumen serta fenomena yang didapati di masyatakat. Masyarakat sudah waktunya melek politik. Jangan jadi apatis dengan politik yang ada. Mengapa? Sebab kebijakan politik nantinya, mereka juga yang akan merasakan. . Presiden nantinya dituntut untuk menyelesaikan berbagai problematika bangsa yang rumit bin jlimet. Dibantu dengan para menteri dan legislatif di tiap provinsi, kabupaten dan kota diharapkan segala permasalahan yang ada dapat diselesaikan dengan menganut asas kekeluargaan dan mengedepankan kepentingan rakyat Indonesia. . Dalam memilih, amati sepak terjangnya selama ini. Bagaimana ia memepelakukan dirinya sendiri, keluarganya, kerabatnya, juga sumbangsih kepada bangsanya. Jangan lupa pula strategi-strategi apa yang akan dilakukan demi menuntaskan segala masalah bangsa di masa kini dan masa mendatang. . Dengan menimbang segala hal di atas, semoga akan jatuh pilihan kepada sosok yang tepat. Mungkin ada yang bilang, ah, semua calon gak baik. Aku mau golput aja deh. Bagi saya sendiri, saya mengikuti anjuran memilih yang terbaik di antara yang baik. Bila memang buruk, saya akan memilih yang paling sedikit keburukannya. . Akhirnya, pilihlah capres cawapres dan caleg pada 17 April nanti dengan hati yang tenang. Kalau perlu istikharah dahulu tidaklah mengapa.
