#1 begin

THE BIRDS - symbol of both life and death

the use of birds in the videos (wings #1 begin, yf, run) can be seen as the connection between life and death due to it’s ambiguous symbolic significance as birds are often seen as a sign of both death and impending calamity and is often associated with stealing of souls. however, birds are also thought to be the symbol of freedom and communication and in many cultured it represents eternal life, the link between heaven and earth.

the scene of flocking birds is not only shown in #1 begin but as well as in young forever and run mv, showing contrast between both meanings of the bird symbolism. (’young forever’ bringing out the calming and tranquil side of life while ‘run’ illustrates the impending calamity of things) if young forever is believed to be a sequel of run, then young forever may just be an illusion to the members - several glimpse of the glitches and as mentioned, a dream they wish to achieve together - to gain success and peace. but this may prove to be elusive because of wings #1 begin which showed some pretty morbid scenes of hinted death.

parallels between #1 begin and the previous mvs in the hyyh series and relate it to the significance of the birds in the videos:

maybe the reason why jungkook and yoongi are put together in the video without any members in sight (eventhough the painting looks like taehyung to me, but i think it makes more sense to be yoongi) is because of their relationship - they are also paired together in the run mv and is believed to represent the twins in the peter pan theories. this can mean a couple of things, 2 individuals in the pair or “2 sides to the same coin”

the dual symbolic significance of birds then can be applied to this relationship, yoongi representing death and jungkook representing life

- death of yoongi, may be physical death, but i prefer to interpret it as death of sanity, death of consciousness and awareness (in i need u: seen in a state of frustration, run: drunk, young forever: holding on to a lighter, wings #1 begin: destroying of passion presented by the burning piano; destruction of the canvas *remember birds are associated with stealing of souls and passion can be said to be one’s soul?*

- contrasted to the ‘living’ jungkook. possesing sense of clarity, being the only member who’s ‘woke’ throughout the entire thing. (a lot of scenes in run mv showed momentary views of jungkook being in deep thoughts alone while the other members are in a illusive state of joy and fun.) possibly the only one who is ‘alive’ as he may be the only one who managed to break free from the confines of life. the member who is all-seeing.

cross-over of both concepts and the irony

- yoongi, albeit facing death in many aspects, is living because of his burning passion (piano on fire) as fire can also be perceived as a source of life, determination and strong will. his portrait is on a white canvas

- although jungkook is believed to be alive, may be facing death in the sense where he is incarcerated in a dark room with big space, illustrating the void in him; hospital bed moving away from him, signifying lack of comfort

- the rain: can mean restoration or purification for yoongi but unhappiness and devastation as well as a sense of doom and loss for jungkook

- also represents jungkook’s emotions, context shifts to his emotional world, state of dream

- jungkook here may be both dead and alive, dead because of his sense of desolation, but alive because he’s able to convey and express his feelings (him crying, *ref to the significance of birds)

- the fire: represents rebirth, emotional cleansing and relief for jungkook (according to his calm reaction), while it inflicts pain on yoongi (could be because of the sacrifices made in order to pursue his dream; burning piano)

- the reality in which there is a disjuncture between the situation (canvas/piano on fire) and his calm reaction

- the bleeding eye: this could be in the context of a dream (the rain), whereby jungkook is dreaming about yoongi’s bleeding eye which can be a sign of this ability to sense and empathize with the difficulties endured, deep internal pain, conflict within soul but is unable to externalise his emotions, possibly forgot what pain feels like. 

- the bleeding eye can also be represented as the ‘all-seeing eye’ i dont mean to make this biblical but yeah this corresponds with the theory of sense of clarity, but this time in yoongi and not jungkook.

ultimately, this probably explains “two different words coming from two opposite poles mingling together” while life and death will account for the “day and night” reference

BigHit just did it again...they almost gave me a heart attack with this video. Tbh even though I hate them for doing this to me I also love them for doing it :D 

This video was confusing yet breath-taking. I love these kind of videos (kinda reminded me of a horror movie :D) and I got goose bumps all over my body. I don’t know what to think of the video though...is it a hint to another comeback or is it connected to the HYYH series? Are we finally going to get answers? I mean it could be. Did any of you realise that their was a “car crashing” sound at the beginning? Jungkook was hit by a car in the I NEED U video right? And what about the drawing he picked up. It looked like a drawing of Yoongi. Omg BigHit why are you always doing these kind of unexpected things. Here I was waiting for the “so far away” MV and what did I get? A freakin short film which left me with even more questions about the HYYH series :D
