Birthday things!
It’s wild that I spent my 34th birthday with a 17-month-old and a 6-day-old. I have two kids. TWO. My boys. It’s unreal! And it’s just plain awesome.
Postpartum so far with pip has been a completely opposite experience compared to when pep was born. I’m healing well, adjusting to the fragmented sleep schedule without a ton of difficulty, nursing the babe confidently, bonding with him well.. which, again, feels like a total 180 from my first weeks, even months, with pep. It’s such a relief, honestly. Obviously this first week hasn’t been without it’s challenges and worries and moments of exhaustion, but I can now confirm that yes, it’s true what they say: the second one is easier.
My mom is back again this week, staying with us for a few days to help with pep and household stuff, which has been great. Yesterday for my birthday, we had a very chill day - the three of us went to the pediatrician for pip’s weight check (which went great!) and then I spent the majority of the day with pip, napping and nursing. B grilled delicious steaks for dinner, picked up some craft beers from a local brewery and a chocolate cake, and made a fire out back. Simple and sweet.
Pep is adjusting pretty well to having a tiny human in the house, but it’s been up and down. Poor babe has had a lot of jealousy and gets upset if he wants to be on my lap but his brother is in his way. I’m trying to do my best to have lots of moments with him and love on him every chance I get. It’s a juggling act at times. I will say though that pep knows the word “kiss”, and when I asked him yesterday if he wanted to give his brother a kiss, he planted a bunch of big ones on him. My HEART.
As I type this and try to quickly eat a bagel, pip is starting to stir, so it’s back to mama duty for this gal. 💙
