during the mad king's war, tormod and rolf became quick friends!!! in fact rolf is actually tormod's first beorc friend who has the same age group as his, next to mist, then sothe.
they were each others' playmates during slow days in camp. they may have faced the worst of the wars, but they were still children who seek the sense of normalcy of playing games in the afternoon outside their homes to pass the times like the kids they're supposed to be (and still are, just not as much mentally anymore, rip)
since they were both raised by different races, rolf taught tormod how to play beorc children games like hopscotch (tormod's a surprisingly fast learner) while tormod taught rolf how to play (tiger) laguz games, though rolf doesnt rly like getting his ear bitten and pulled for the funsies. when mist wasn't doing errands, she would tag along sometimes!
and to their surprise, some of their games aren't too different from each others' culture like tag. the one time they managed to get sothe to join them was when rolf told tormod to tickle sothe by the back, which pissed sothe off so much he chased the two snickering suspects around the camp. as the chaos unfolds, a few accidents happened here and there like a laguz accidentally dropping all the firewood they were carrying, and a few tent falling off and burned by tormod's accidentally igniting hands.
thankfully the damage was controlled before it could spread to the entire camp. the boys may have gotten an earful from their respective gaurdians, oscar and maurim and micaiah too if she was around, but their little game somewhat lifted each of the soldier's moods. you can't deny that the sight of a couple of boys being children in the time of war has brought some sense of normalcy to everybody, a time when nobody had to go through the frightful aniticipating of losing their lives at any given moment, a time when hearing the laughter of children playing by the fields or streets was normal on an afternoon, a time when all was still peaceful and well.

PROVERBS 22:4
True humility and fear of the LORD lead to riches, honor, and long life.
TRUE HUMILITY AND WISDOM
God granted Solomon, the great King of Israel, wisdom beyond measure. From this, King Solomon penned much of the book of Proverbs, providing insight and knowledge regarding right living before God.
Solomon begins the book of Proverbs with this statement:
PROVERBS 1:7
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, fools despise wisdom and instruction."
He repeats this truth later in the book in Proverbs 22:4
King Solomon had more riches than we can ever imagine. He was honored among the nations and had a full and prosperous life. We might not be kings, but the truth of this statement is timeless.
Hundreds of years later, Paul wrote a prayer for the Christians in his letter to the Ephesians that can provide context for Proverbs 22:4
"..the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of Wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believeā¦"
EPHESIANS 1:17-19
His prayer teaches us that by coming to God and His Word with humility, God will give us Spirtitual wisdom and knowledge. And because of our faith in Him, God honors us and gives us riches that only come with belonging in Christ Jesus. He blesses us because of His great love.
It is through humility and a holy fear of God that we receive His promises of riches, honor, and life. Some of those promises will come to pass on earth, but all of them will be fulfilled when Jesus returns one day. And as we see the fulfillment of God's promises, our response will be to give God the glory.

When you express your need for God, you're not weak-you are wise. Encourage those around you to also depend on Him!

GOD OFFERS COMFORT TO ALL
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can be comfort toothers. when they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us.
We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia, We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.
INSIGHT
Second Corinthians 1:3-7 includes a cluster of ācomfortā words. The word translated ācomfortā (vv. 3, 4, 5, 6 [2x]) is paraklÄsis, a compound word meaning āto call alongside to assist.ā Before His departure, Jesus used the related word paraklÄtos, translated āadvocateā to speak of the Holy Spirit: āI will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you foreverā (John 14:16; see also 14:26; 15:26; 16:7). Other English versions render it āhelper,ā ācomforter,ā ācounselor.ā Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, believers in Christ experience Godās comfort and in turn can extend it to others.

COMFORT OF GOD
I couldnāt wait. My husband and I had just returned from the grocery store; and as we unloaded the groceries, I frantically searchedābut couldnāt find the donut bag. Then I checked the receipt. No donuts. Frustrated, I cried out, āAll I wanted from the store was a donut!ā Fifteen minutes later, my husband handed me a bag of donuts. Heād braved the snow again and snuck out to buy them. After squeezing him tightly, I sheepishly said, āIām glad you didnāt get into an accident just to appease my craving!ā
I donāt usually get that worked up about a donut! But it had been an emotionally draining week, and so I sought solace in a donutāand I experienced a much deeper joy through the love and compassion of my husband.
The kind of comfort we may get from satisfying our cravings is always short-lived. As the apostle Paul shared with the Corinthians, trueāand lastingācomfort comes from the āGod of all comfortā (2 Corinthians 1:3).
Paul understood his readersā deep struggles and needs. Like them he faced daily trials, including persecution for his faith. And because God had comforted him, he was able to comfort them (v. 4).
When weāre hurting, we can turn to Jesus, who abounds in compassion and comfort (v. 5). There we find solace. And when weāve experienced His comfort, we can extend it to others.

HOW TO START GOSPEL CONVERSATIONS
THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERS YOU
God, Himself, the Holy Spirit lives inside of you! Meditate on this. His will is for people to be saved. He speaks for you when you are sharing the Good News with someone. In fact, God's Spirit will prompt me to meet people when I'm out and about. It does not matter if I'm in a store, coffee shop, or at a restaurant, I may not know what I'm going to say when He prompts me to meet someone. But if I'm obedient to the Spirit's promptings, He is faithful! God will speak through me. I will listen to whom I'm conversing with, and the Holy Spirit will remind me of something that Jesus said to encourage whoever I'm talking to.
This week, ask God to make you sensitive to His nudges to meet someone and start a conversation about Jesus. Obey the Holy Spirit's promptings in your life.
