"Since before our recorded history, Arcanine has been man's best friend. In Prehistory, when human knowledge about evolution and evolutionary stones were limited, it was rare to see an Arcanine. This, in combination with its luscious appearance, extreme speed and strength, and tendency to help humans when they were in need, lead the people of old to believe that Arcanine was some sort of deity. This led to Arcanine mistakenly being classified as a Legendary Pokémon for many generations."

"From what we've gathered from cave paintings, we can deduce that it was Arcanine itself that sought the first contact with humans, helping tribes when an accident happened, protecting them from predators, and even helping the first farmers on the fields. Since it was viewed as some rare being, the people would in exchange offer Arcanine their cultivated food, which Arcanine then carried back to its young in their nest by stashing it in their fur. Over time, Arcanine and the humans bonded so much, that Arcanine trusted them with its young, resulting in the human and Pokémon bond we still see today."

"Though it has a tough appearance and is very powerful, Arcanine is one of the most docile and gentle Pokémon to be domesticated. It is loyal, calm and quite jolly. Children love to sleep in its warm fur, and Arcanine loves getting their attention, wether through play or petting. The eternal flame residing in its body is said to be ar enough to even sustain nature in cold, extreme winters, making it a beloved pet for farmers aside from being a good guard Pokémon."

"Its legendary status was only revoked when scientists discovered that it was indeed the evolution of Growlithe, and Fire Stones became more widely available. Though no longer classified as such, it still falls in the Legendary Pokémon category within the Pokédex. This due to the fact that Arcanine appears the most in stories of old out of any given Pokémon native to the Kanto region, and is thus a Pokémon from many legends."

"Arcanine has excellent hearing and smell, and has been known to rescue humans that were lost at night, in the forest or even in caves. It rarely goes astray, too - as long as it has an item with the smell of its home on it hidden in its fur, it will always find the way back. One of my pupils wrote the following about their Arcanine:"

"Arcanine is not only a good helper to people, but to Pokémon alike. When I brushed its fur, bird Pokémon kept swooping to the ground to gather up the fallen fluffs to build their nest with. Arcanine watched them with glee, and even started to offer them branches by picking them up and holding them in the air. It is a smart Pokémon, albeit at times a little silly."
