Not Holding, But Noticing
The Body Disagrees
✦ most decisions begin before thought arrives ✦
✦ ᛉ ᚨ ᚷ ᛟ ✦
What — or who — is in control?
It’s a simple word.
Everyone uses it.
No one really defines it.
Like hypnosis, it behaves like smoke —
visible for a moment, before dissolving into nothing.
We say control is regulation. Supervision. Correction.
Cold words.
Administrative.
As if experience could be audited.
As if deviation were failure.
But the body disagrees.
You pull your hand away from fire before you “decide” to.
Your heart accelerates without asking permission.
The same system that lets you choose
also acts without you.
So where is control?
If you cannot move, have you lost it?
Or were you never holding it to begin with?
In deeper states — those without clear edges —
control does not disappear.
It becomes… unclear.
Distributed.
Diffused.
Or perhaps —
given.
Neurons fire. Signals cascade.
Something moves.
Something observes.
And maybe that’s the closest we get:
not control as command —
but as awareness.
Not holding —
but noticing.
And sometimes,
it feels good
to let go.

Easier said than done but a worthy goal. We should all fight for the things that matter for us, but life would be much easier if we stopped resisting things we can't control.

LET GO
We are often taught that strength means holding on.
Hold on to the relationship. Hold on to the plan. Hold on to the anger. Hold on to the version of life we thought we were supposed to have.
But sometimes holding on is the very thing keeping us stuck.
Let Go is about knowing what belongs in your hands and what has already run its course. Letting go does not mean you stopped caring. It does not mean the pain was not real or the experience did not matter.
It means you are no longer giving it control over your peace, your choices, or your direction.
Some things can be repaired. Some things can teach us. Some things simply have to be released.
Peace begins when we learn the difference.
Let go of the need to control every outcome. Let go of the reaction that keeps reopening the wound. Let go of what cannot follow you into the person you are becoming.
Sometimes the power is not in the grip.
It is in the release.

🌪️ Are you the Oak or the Reed?
The library is open. 🕯️
We are addicted to control. We plan our days, secure our futures, and build high walls to keep the unpredictable out. But the universe is entropic by nature. Chaos is not a mistake; it is the default setting.
Imagine you are standing in a raging river. The current is cold and strong. Our instinct is to plant our feet, stiffen our muscles, and scream at the water to stop. But have you ever tried to stand still in a storm?
The harder you resist, the faster you drown. We think rigidity is strength. We are wrong.
In the Library of Shadows, we study the Oak and the Reed. The mighty Oak breaks in the storm because it refuses to bend. The Reed survives because it surrenders to the rhythm of the wind.
Surrender does not mean giving up. It means dropping the heavy shield you have been carrying for years. It means trusting the water to carry you.
My challenge for you this week: Identify one battle in your life that you are tired of fighting. Maybe it is a person. Maybe it is a painful memory. Stop fighting. Take a deep breath. Let go of the rope.
You might find that the chaos wasn't trying to destroy you. It was just trying to move you.
Until next time, keep your lantern lit.
