I (like a lot of people) kind of just ignore the Mysterious Island and don't see it as cannon (Sorry Mr Verne). SO ANYWAY I don't think Pierre instantly published the book; I headcannon that he had it as a 'to be published after my death' both because he wouldn't want to constantly have to talk about it (especially memories of Nemo), but also to protect Nemo and the crew.
I just feel like it is out of character for him to put them at risk, but he would still want it published at some point; so has it published when Nemo might, presumably, have passed.
Pierre took several letters/notes that Nemo had written him (dinner invitations, research notes, etc) during his stay on the Nautilus with him when they fled.
He keeps the letters in the draw of his bedside table, tied together with one of Nemo's hair ribbons he had taken to briefly use as a book mark but forgotten to give back.

Nemo loves Pierre's love of life, nature, learning, the world. He wishes he could still see things the way he does; it's one of the things he considers the most beautiful about Pierre.
Both love to set each other off on an info-dump session and then just sit and listen to the other. They one listening sits there with such a love struck expression (especially Pierre who has very little control over his expressions) that when people see them they're like 'good grief!'
Both aren't the best at looking after themselves, but both will try and get the other to look after themselves and make a point about it (in their own way) when they don't. They also don't see the hypocrisy in this.
Pierre is a tactile person. Logically, Nemo knows this but he still get jealous when Pierre is constantly touching Conseil and Ned - especially Ned because Nemo knows they had a thing on the Abraham Lincoln.
To be respectful Pierre, despite the constant instinct to after they've all settled into the Nautilus, does not initiate physical contact with Nemo. He doesn't realise that it drives Nemo insane. He often 'sulks' (he would never call it that) about it when he sees Pierre lean against Ned. Samir (his first mate and bestie) keeps telling him to initiate friendly contact or stop whining.
(Samir is as bigger supporter of Nemonnax as Ned is anti Nemonnax)
