It's so interesting where the German subtitles for Fallout decide to translate "you" with either "du" or "Sie". The perception of hierarchy, seniority and levels of familiarity here is really fun to pick apart, especially what they do with Coop's use of this.
The Ghoul refers to Max and Lucy with "du". It's a mix of seniority and disrespect. They're strangers, and they're green, and he doesn't bother to extend this courtesy to them.
Wilzig, someone visibly older and with no personal connection to Coop, gets the formal "Sie" right before he gets his foot blown off.
Sorrel Booker, the "President of the Govermint", gets "du", as there seems to be some sort of history with him and the Ghoul. It's also a form of disrespect again, though different from the disrespect leveled at Max and Lucy.
Mr House, pre and post-war, is "Sie" - which is WILD, considering they a) have a history and b) Coop clearly has little respect for House. AND HOUSE IS ALSO USING SIE FOR THE GHOUL HERE. This isn't seniority, this certainly isn't being polite or respectful, this is just being done for the love of the game.
Do you guys know how weirdly House's commentary on Coop finding his family reads in German? Why are they both on stilts. Why are they acting like all those repressed, aging detectives from long-running German TV shows who know each other way too long and way too deeply, but still haven't offered informal pronouns to each other. It's certainly... something. It's like a holdover from the old world. Something they both fall back on. MUCH to think about.
