EB never saw a super amount of development beyond what I posted to tumblr in his tag. He was his creator’s first secretive attempt at creating true AI back when synths were only in the prototype stage of their 2nd generation, prior to FO4′s Broken Mask incident (about 60 years before the game is set), full of dormant memory files and extra coding set to develop and unlock over the time of EB-164′s operations as a Courser. 

After he gained the ability to discard his Institute programming, EB went rogue and latched onto his core drive of protecting humans from Institute synths and went a-wandering to do just that. He made it out as far as the Mojave doing his lone-ranger gig (because I wanted to play him in FONV, hello Westworld B) ). Being early gen 2 he was able to patch himself up when needed with parts from other synths.

He returned to the Commonwealth and set up safe havens and outposts for peaceful humans to occupy when he detected the reactivation signal of “Jenny”, the second and successful attempt at a whole and true AI, their creator having linked them as robotic pseudo-siblings and tasked them to take care of eachother, no matter what.

EB has become an accomplished mimic of human behaviour and I kinda imagine his level of self-awareness and self-improvement to be similar to Data’s in Star Trek TNG- incredibly accomplished, but any personality he has is a mishmash of those around him and his curiosity about the world, and he lacks the physical ability to experience emotion or pain, dreams or empathy. 

Luckily, synth tech is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was when he was created, and Jenny’s got a plan to sort it all out for her big brother. 

2223-  (64 years before FO4) The prototype EB-164 is completed and assigned to Synth Retention.

2226- Dr. Elijah Blake, forerunner of robotics and programming, marries Jennifer Scott, a bio-scientist.

2227- Jennifer is shot and killed by raiders on a botany expedition to the surface.

Dr. Blake begins to memorialise Jennifer in a new program, JB-001. After three months, this program asks instead to be called ‘Jenny’.

2235-  Dr. Blake completes a chassis for Jenny after slowly acquiring parts without the Institutes knowledge. She opens her eyes for the first time on the 24th of December. They decide this will be her birthday.

2253- After 30 years in operation as a Courser, EB-164 finally processes the zero-sum equation planted by Dr. Blake. He breaks free of Institute control and leaves the Commonwealth. 

2258- Dr. Blake passes away, earlier than the expected Institute lifespan. Jenny is discovered and placed into storage with outdated Gen2 synths. With knowledge left for her by Blake, she quickly escapes.

She becomes stuck in the labyrinth of old world tunnels and mothballed Institute sections beneath the Commonwealth. Afraid to be alone, she deactivates herself for 25 years.

2261- Claire O'Neill, later nicknamed Washington, is born in the Capital Wasteland.

2277- (FO3 events, FNV) Institute receives possible sightings of a mechanical man as far west as the Mojave desert.

Claire O’Neill is driven out of DC and travels north to the Commonwealth to escape the conflict between the Enclave and the Brotherhood 

2282- EB-164 returns to the Commonwealth. He founds an island sanctuary settlement off the coast of Boston. He names it “Blake’s Island”.

2283- Jenny wakes up and finally makes it to the surface. Following instructions left by Dr. Blake, she searches for EB-164.

2284- Jenny leaves Blake’s Island and begins a life in the Commonwealth, primarily in and around Goodneighbour. She chooses not to hide that she is a synth.

2287- (FO4 events)
