Yes, yes, yes, to all of it!!! I’m working under the assumption that Sora&Yama arrive together everywhere lol! Like I’m sure they arrived together to that meet up when they were going to the sauna or whatever that was, lol I don’t remember, and then they actually showed them arriving just the 2 of them together in I think OVA 3?? But that scene in Bokura w/Takeru was a sure call to the 3 of them being a “future family”, so the parallel with Michi & Hikari works for my HC :P
I believe the sauna was in Ketsui, when Taichi and Mimi (+Hikari) arrived together on screen. And yes! You’re right that Yamato and Sora also met up with the others in Kokuhaku when they all decided to go back to the Digital World after the reboot. :D So they basically do always arrive together. ;)
PREACH! Everything else in the parallel adds up, so why shouldn’t the “future family” work for the Yagami’s/Tachikawa’s as well?
So I finished watching tri’s Kyōsei...
Tbh I have a lot of mixed feelings.
It’s so much better than Soshitsu (which granted wasn’t difficult to top), as I definitely liked certain aspects and what they’re trying to do but in overall this plot is so messy?
I do not like this whole “Mei-chan is too powerful”. It’d have made more sense for this storyline to be given to Hikari and Gatomon, considering she’s been the special one since Adventure and it would have made her downfall all the more intriguing. And I would honestly be more invested in this Mei-chan and Ophanimon merge, if Meicoomon was an artificial digimon? I would have found it more intriguing if Meiko’s father had created her and that is why “she should not have been born”. But that’s my humble opinion...
Next to that, I’m glad Meiko finally got development and I really feel for her, but it’s a real shame that Hikari, who was promoted as the other protagonist of this movie, got so terribly sidelined. She deserved better than this. They easily could have given some of the Taichi/Meiko moments to Hikari&Meiko or Hikari&Taichi to have some build-up to Hikari’s downfall? That said, I do like that losing Taichi is what triggered Hikari’s downfall.
(Also what is up with those sudden Meichi interactions? I don’t mind Meichi, especially because their moments in this film were great. It was to be expected that they were going to push for a romance between the two - although their moments aren’t necessarily romantic, even if they could be interpreted that way -, but I wish there was a bit more build-up to it then. I think I would actually really ship it if that was the case.)
Idek anymore...
I’ll rewatch this tomorrow night and post more thoughts on it all.
Maybe some quick sidenotes: - Sora comforting Mimi when they were on the phone with their parents was so sweet. I definitely need to make an edit of that! - I absolute ADORED the ghost stories scene because I absolutely love that both Takeru and Mimi like telling and hearing ghost stories, while Yamato was being such a dork about it. This is who Yamato is, fandom. Not a rebellious loner, but an awkward reserved - with yes, some anger which is understandable considering what he’s been through - teen. - I LOVED the scene between Meiko and Agumon. Agumon’s light-spiritedness and honesty was exactly what she needed. - Also, so many props to Meiko for telling Taichi that “she can run on her own”. It felt so weird that Taichi would grab her fist when they needed to run from the police, but I loved that she was independent in that scene. Yes, she’s been saved (too much) in the series so far, but it’s clear from her flashbacks that she’s responsible and capable of taking care of herself and Mei-chan, yet they don’t really show that side of her now, which is not okay. - I like that Yamato picked up Taichi’s goggles and is going to lead the group in his absence. - Back on the Meichi... It is clear that Meiko is crushing on Taichi (”you are a top bloke!”), but I still believe she’s smitten with Mimi as well. And come to think of it, I would like this ot3 a lot. - Lastly, I like how they wrote Taichi’s path back to his old leader self and how said path makes it clear why he becomes the Digiworld’s ambassador later on.
