taylor was at a crossroads when writing evermore and midnights, and i guess it just never clicked for me how much marjorie is a huge piece of that puzzle. taylor saying during showgirl promo that travis would never ask or want her to give up her career, the thing he knew she loved when he met her—she felt that pressure from joe, and that's why that choice of career vs romantic love is all over those two albums. marjorie was her contending with the fact that she wouldn't just be giving up her dream, she'd be giving up her grandmother's as well.
