Part One
"So we're finally here."
At Bobby's words, the disgraced lawyer finally lifted his nose from his book and made eye contact. He even smiled, amused, as Bobby turned the chair around outside the cell and straddled it like an insolent high school student--or, more appropriately, like a cop sitting down for a heart to heart with a suspect.

"How is your husband? He doesn't seem to have the time to visit me. Too bad." Kristoph closed his books and uncrossed his legs only to cross them in the opposite direction.
Bobby grimaced slightly and gave no answer. Truth be told, his husband was in the hospital after being hit by a car. (And despite his broken ankle, he seemed to be enjoying the stay.) The detective adjusted his aviators and gave as cool and cryptic a response as he could. "I don't think Phoenix will be finding much time for you anymore."
Kristoph adjusted his glasses in turn--a light and dainty touch compared to Bobby's--and smiled, the corners of his lips curling like a cat who isn't in a cage. "That would be a pity."
Something about the words irked Bobby, just as pretty much everything about Kristoph had been irking him for years. But he did his best to brush it off. "You're the pity here, Mr. Gavin. The murder, framing Phoenix--betraying your student's trust. Why would you do this? What have you become??"
For a moment, Bobby thought he saw an angry facial twitch and a sudden tightening around Kristoph's eyes. A shadow of the coldly enraged murderer who had been dragged off the witness stand. But then the lawyer just shrugged.
"Were you a Boy Scout, Detective?"
Bobby paused for a moment. "Yes, but what does that have-"
"as I imagined. I know it may be... Difficult for a do-gooder, a self-made champion of justice to grasp this, but sometimes... Terrible things just happen." Kristoph marked the page I his book and closed it.
Now it was Bobby's turn to twitch a little. His worldview as a "do-gooder" doesn't make him naive; he's a homicide detective. He knows perfectly well that people do terrible things sometimes, especially to each other. "You make it sound like an unfortunate accident. You killed a man! Why?!"
"It was unfortunate, wasn't it?" Kristoph's gaze left Bobby, instead moving into the near distance of unoccupied space as if he was contemplating some great question. "An unfortunate man, and an unfortunate situation."
Bobby stared at the man resting in an armchair, looking for all the world like he could get up and walk away to get a drink without steel bars and a murder sentence hindering him. He looked as calm, collected, and steady as ever.
Except for those moments during the trial.
"I don't know why you spend time with that man."
Phoenix sighed and stretched himself further across Bobby's lap, pinning him in place on the couch. "Don't you think he's a nice guy? He reached out to me after I got kicked out of court. He's been nothing but nice."
Phoenix had changed in ways his partner had never expected since his disbarment. There was a slight drawl, a too-mild tone to his words about Kristoph, and the way he turned the question around made Bobby frown. "He's not the sort of person who actually cares about the misfortune people like you and me experience, especially in the law world. I can tell."
"He's a defense attorney like I was. We care about people's misfortunes." Phoenix turned gray-brown eyes up toward his boyfriend's face.
Bobby looked back into those eyes--sadder now, more guarded than ever even with those he loved--and paused for a long moment. "Maybe you're right."
Phoenix only closed his eyes again.
windmaedchen replied to your post “Dad, can I borrow some money for a chainsaw? I found one that's pink...”

“Nick has spoiled her rotten with awful magic show implements, which is quite the series of unfortunate decisions on his part when Trucy’s my daughter, too, and it’s her and my salaries paying for questionable purchases...”
Dad, can I borrow some money for a chainsaw? I found one that's pink and I want it! Please? I promise to be careful!
He sighs heavily. “No, Trucy, you may not have a chainsaw even if it’s for one of your acts, and don’t try to weasel around me by asking your daddy! Your knives and the firesticks are more than enough!”

“Hey, uh... Y-you lost your sketchbook!”
Bobby had seen and watched the spiky-haired man more than once during the class they shared, but no attempt to talk had been made before. The poor guy had seemed so down and withdrawn lately. Enough so that he apparently forgot his sketchbook and messenger bag on the way out, looking upset.
So Bobby had hastily grabbed and shoved the sketchbook under his own arm and followed, juggling the excess of artistic instruments of his own as well, dropping a pencil on the way. His long legs easily caught him up to the other student, though, and he came to a breathless, sheepish stop with the sketchbook clumsily held out.
“It, uh, I don’t think this is Free Random Guy’s Sketchbook Day, so I figured...” Away went another pencil as Bobby adjusted his aviators and smiled.

Dr. Love thinks that a relationship between Bobby Fulbright and Pheenie Wright has a very good chance of being successful, but this doesn’t mean that you don’t have to work on the relationship. Remember that every relationship needs spending time together, talking with each other etc.
“Well, isn’t that just the best! Just like you’re the best!!” Bobby sweeps his boyfriend up in a big hug and kiss.

When he felt Phoenix snuggle close, head against his chest, Bobby sighed and relaxed. Too often they were both busy with classes or work, but with movie nights, or even just nights Bobby crashes at his boyfriend’s house, they could curl up as close as they liked for as long as they wanted.
The rookie detective’s broad chest housed a big heart, and tonight it beat heavy and loving for Phoenix as Bobby wrapped him up in his arms and gently stroked his hair.
