Being scattered across time and space is a weird thing, but Gaster had grown used to it over the years of resets. He always found a way to view the world via Sans, one way or another, but this was different. For one, this spot in front of him wasn’t the way he usually saw the world. This was more solid, more real . . . Secondly, this wasn’t the Underground he was seeing through the space; the sunlight gave more than enough proof for that.
He couldn’t leave the Core alone, but he needed to investigate this. Besides, he felt drawn to this light. It had been way too long since he felt sunlight on his bones. Maybe if he just projected a part of him outside?
Closing his eyes, Gaster concentrated on bringing enough parts of him together to create an appearance outside the void. It was exhausting, but the sunlight filled him with determination.

The partially-formed skeleton opened his eye sockets, squinting into the sunlight filtering through the leaves of the forest around him. Was this truly the surface? Impossible. Even in the void, the spell should’ve kept even a human in the Underground. How was he able to get out, even partially? It must not have truly been the surface . . . Perhaps an illusion? A very strong fire somehow strung up near the ceiling? But no, through the canopy, he could see blue sky.
. . . There was no way this was possible.
He didn’t dare hope.
