I'm so strong to not go look at the SAYER tags while at work listening to SAYER
thinking about "you don't need to be intimidating to me," "watch your tongue when you're speaking to the king," "my king!", "martyn, are you okay?", "i saw my life flash before my eyes, i saw us among the carrots and i thought i might never see this again," "i've never been more proud of you," "we shall defend ye 'til the end, my friend," "don't touch my king!", "ren, please be careful," "see you on the other side, my lord," "i care about our home, where we forged our friendship," "stay behind me, my lord!", "ren, no! no, no, no, ren! ren, ren, ren, REN!", "you saved me! you just saved me!", "i've been blinded by the violence, my hand. hold me -- hold me," "it was a lovely place," "you're alive, laddie! you're alive! you have no idea how happy i am to see you!", "i will go down with ye hand in hand," "to the grave," "i couldn't have done it without the hand," "get me a shield and i will go to the ends of the earth with you."
"Why are you different?" / rashid
It's right there on the label: The Corinthian, in neat black lettering. The entirety of his old, true life is in that folder. He would like to sit alone with it and read through it, see if any of the many photographs of eyeless boys tied to radiators or bedposts jog a memory or two, but he won't. If he asks for it, or even spends too long just looking at it, Rashid will know there's something he wants that isn't what his master has told him to get.
"Because the last one would have killed you and cut out your eyes by now, and I'm easier to work with," he says flatly, pushing the thick, yellowed folder back across the table to Rashid. He has a distant sense that he's met one of these people before. Not Rashid - a woman, maybe? His predecessor had little use for those, so maybe she even survived. "Ask me something else."
